THE CHALLENGE

Our client is an innovative clean-tech start-up developing modular, high-performance battery systems for the maritime sector. The company is now 100% integrated into a solid Belgian industrial group. This provides direct access to group manufacturing infrastructure, financial stability, and operational backing.

With two major multi-year development programs secured (funded by regional and European initiatives for zero-emission shipping), the focus is clear: take the existing battery technology from prototype stage through certification, industrialization, and serial delivery.

YOUR MISSION

- Technical Ownership: Act as the final technical authority on battery system architecture (cell-to-pack design, BMS integration, thermal & water cooling, and electrical safety).

- Project Delivery: Lead the technical execution of secured multi-million-euro regional and European development programs (3-4 year horizons).

- Certification & Standards: Own the compliance roadmap, ensuring systems meet maritime classification standards (e.g., ES-TRIN, DNV).

- Team Leadership & Build-up: Lead, mentor, and grow the local engineering and technical team in a hands-on, pragmatic environment.

- Industrialization: Setup assembly processes suited for low-to-medium volume manufacturing, bridging R&D; and serial production.





- Operations Alignment: Partner with Program Management on procurement, supplier selection, and delivery tracking.

YOUR PROFILE

- Technical Background: Bachelor/Master in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automotive, or Energy Engineering with solid experience in battery systems, high-voltage technology, or heavy-duty electrification. Maritime background is a plus, but automotive/heavy-duty experience is equally valuable.

- Pragmatic & Solution-Oriented: Comfortable moving between high-level architectural trade-offs and hands-on testing/troubleshooting on the workshop floor.

- Execution Mindset: Strong personality with the stamina to structure projects, make clear trade-offs, and push technical delivery forward.

- Languages: Fluent in English. Working knowledge of French or Dutch is highly practical for interacting with local teams and group management.
