What you'll do
- Oversee the entire payroll process from data collection to payment distribution, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Process payroll for a diverse workforce, including full-time, part-time, and temporary employees, while managing various pay rates and deductions.
- Maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status, to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Collaborate with the HR team to ensure that employee benefits, deductions, and taxes are accurately reflected in payroll calculations.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports for management review, highlighting key metrics and trends related to payroll expenses and employee compensation.
- Address payroll inquiries from employees,
providing timely and accurate responses to ensure clarity and satisfaction.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of payroll software systems, ensuring that they are up-to-date and functioning efficiently.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and best practices, making recommendations for process improvements where applicable.
- Support the annual budgeting process by providing payroll-related data and forecasts to assist in financial planning.
- Participate in training sessions for new employees regarding payroll procedures and policies, fostering a culture of transparency and understanding.
- Collaborate with external auditors during payroll audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration or a related field, with a strong understanding of payroll processes and regulations.
- Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with experience in platforms such as ADP, Paychex, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex payroll data and generate meaningful reports.
- Excellent attention to detail,
ensuring that all payroll transactions are accurate and compliant.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with employees and management professionally.
Nice to have
- Certification in payroll management, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Experience with HRIS systems and integration with payroll software.
- Familiarity with labor laws and regulations specific to Iowa or the construction industry.
- Previous experience in a construction or project-based environment, understanding the unique payroll needs of this sector.
