Role Description This full-time Bioinformatician / Data Scientist role at Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is an on-site position based in Badalona. The role involves designing and implementing data analysis pipelines for genomic, transcriptomic, and other high-throughput biomedical data, as well as integrating clinical and experimental datasets to support translational research projects.
The Bioinformatician / Data Scientist will develop and maintain reproducible code, document workflows, and collaborate closely with researchers to formulate hypotheses, select appropriate statistical and machine learning methods, and interpret results. Daily tasks include data preprocessing, quality control, statistical analysis, visualization, and reporting of findings in a clear and accessible manner for multidisciplinary teams. The role also includes contributing to publications, grant applications, and presentations, while helping to improve data-management practices and computational infrastructure within the institute.
Qualifications
- Strong programming skills in languages commonly used in bioinformatics and data science (e.g., Python, R, or similar), with experience in version control and reproducible research practices.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and workflows for analyzing omics data (e.g., next-generation sequencing, gene expression, variant analysis), including familiarity with relevant databases and file formats.
- Solid grounding in statistics and machine learning, including exploratory data analysis, model selection, validation, and interpretation of results in a biomedical context.
- Proficiency in data handling and visualization, including working with large, complex datasets, using libraries or platforms for clear and informative visual reporting.
- Comfort working in Linux-based environments and using high-performance or cloud computing resources for large-scale data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and present technical results to non-specialist audiences.
- Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience in biomedical or clinical research settings and familiarity with good research practices, data protection, and ethical considerations is highly beneficial.
