Context And Mission The AI Institute at BSC has consolidated experience in several NLP areas, such as massive language model building, machine translation and unsupervised learning for under-resourced languages and domains. It has been entrusted by the Spanish and the Catalan governments to develop fundamental open-source resources and technologies for Spanish and Catalan. In connection with this, the AI Institute is currently in charge of two flagship projects at the national and regional level: the ALIA Plan, funded by the Spanish Secretariat of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, and the AINA project, aimed at developing AI resources for Catalan, funded by the Catalan Digitalisation Department.

In addition, the Unit participates in various EU-funded international projects.

Key Duties Actively participating and working alongside the project management in designing proposals, project scoping and evaluation procedures for natural language applications and solutions based upon users, prospects and partner requirements encompassed in technical specifications.

Utilizing several technical skills to plan enhancement of natural language application capabilities through integrations, interfaces and additional coding.

Planning, design and implementation of evaluation of natural language platforms and applications to assess solution capabilities and to determine relevant development options to deliver impactful outcomes.

Project deliverable writing in Technical English, in close collaboration with software developers.

Monitoring and evaluating feedback from users and identification of improvement actions.

Advise and support external stakeholders on projects that utilize BSC-developed AI infrastructures.

Create and deliver talks about AI and its applications in top tier technical forums, as well as in less technical dissemination settings.

Requirements Education

PhD degree in computer sciences, engineering, computational linguistics or equivalent.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience





Experience in project management related tasks: scoping, task planning and tracking, time-management and deliverable writing.

Demonstrated experience participating in international projects, preferably European Framework Programme (FP) projects and in international collaboration.

Demonstrated experience with several language processing and AI inference and harnessing platforms.

Demonstrated experience in NLP and the use of text mining tools for Spanish, English and Catalan.

Familiarity with scientific web service-based workflow platforms (e.g. Galaxy, Taverna)

Demonstrated experience in the integration and evaluation of NLP tools for unstructured information exploitation.

Demonstrated experience in language technologies related to data models and metadata schema.

Demonstrated experience in language technologies related to standard data formats and text annotation formats.

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience

Strong understanding of linguistic concepts related to morphosyntax, pragmatics, syntax and semantics.

Familiarity with statistical methods in applied natural language analysis and machine-learning.

Advanced programming skills in Python.

Strong linguistic background in annotation and development of language resources (corpora, vocabularies, lexica).

Competences

Fluency in spoken and written English, Spanish and Catalan. Fluency in other European languages will also be valued.

Development of the recruitment process The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición").

The recruitment process consists of two phases: Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position.

- 40 points

Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated.

- 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.



The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
