Position
Summary The Technical Designer bridges creative vision and technical execution. You will transform conceptual designs into precise, production-ready technical drawing packages that meet international venue regulations, structural standards, and manufacturing requirements. This role requires strong expertise in exhibition build systems, materials, and fabrication processes, along with the ability to collaborate across creative, production, project management teams globally. Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Documentation
Develop detailed technical drawings from approved creative concepts
Produce full drawing packages including plans, elevations, sections, construction details, and material specifications
Prepare structural detailing for exhibition stands, custom builds, and feature areas
Ensure compliance with venue regulations and local safety standards
Create accurate 2D / 3D models and render-ready technical layouts
Production & Engineering Support
Liaise with production teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure design feasibility
Specify materials, finishes,
and construction methods
Review fabrication drawings and approve shop drawings
Resolve technical issues during pre-production and build phases
Provide on-site technical support when required (domestic and international)
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Creative Designers to preserve design intent
Collaborate with Project Managers to align technical solutions with budgets and timelines
Coordinate with general partners and local build teams
Support value engineering efforts without compromising quality Qualifications & Preferred Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in exhibition, events, experiential, retail, or related environment design.
Proficient in AutoCAD (required), with strong working knowledge of SketchUp, Vectorworks, or similar 2D/3D design software.
Proven experience producing technical drawing packages and construction documentation for large-scale exhibition or event builds.
Experience preparing production files for CNC machining, fabrication, and print production.
Strong understanding of structural principles, load calculations, and build feasibility.
Knowledge of international exhibition systems, modular construction methods, and venue regulations.
Familiarity with theatrical lighting systems, power distribution requirements, and projection technologies.
Experience coordinating projects across international venues and multicultural teams.
Degree or diploma in Technical Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, or a related discipline preferred.
Knowledge of sustainable materials and environmentally responsible design practices is an asset.
Familiarity with AV, lighting, projection, and digital integration within exhibition environments is advantageous.
