Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Viticulture

Job Type: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer, Part Time (Unit 3 – CFA – California Faculty Association).
Position Summary
The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:
- Introductory Viticulture
- General Viticulture
- Grape Pest and Disease Management
- Table Grape and Raisin Production
- Organic Viticulture
- Digital Viticulture
- Other classes that may be identified as needed
Instructor Responsibilities
1. Adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
2. Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm/final exams.
3. Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment
Appointment contingent on budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association. Acknowledges the “Order of Work.”
Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. No work‑visa sponsorship.
Compensation
Commensurate with qualifications and experience within salary range placement. Salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree: $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries usually at or near the minimum of the range. Presente monthly salary adjusted based on WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated Semester
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open;
positions are filled asneeded based on student enrollment and funding. The number of positions varies each semester. Appointments often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool remains in place for two academic terms;
reapplication required beyond that.
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
- Education : A Master’s degree in Viticulture or Plant Science with an emphasis in Grape Production or closely related field.
- Experience :
- Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations or other evidence.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- Experience in grape production, including wine, table and/or raisin grape production.
- Experience in organic grape production, grape pests and diseases, and digital viticulture.
- Experience with post‑harvest aspects.
- Ability to operate and demonstrate vineyard equipment.
- Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine, table, and raisin grape industry.
