Title: Digital twins for cancer progression based on multiscale structured models and mechanistic learning

Purpose Of Contract

Collaborator on activities related to the project/agreement stated.

Job Location and Schedule

ETSICCP, Monday-Friday, ********** h & *********** h (35 h/week).

Tasks and Responsibilities

-

- Development of organ-scale structured biomathematical models to describe the progression of prostate cancer towards higher pathological grades.

- Development of advanced computational methods for tumor simulation, calibration, and prediction using clinical, histopathological, and medical imaging data for each patient.

- Analysis of the predictions, parameters, and biomarkers obtained from the personalized models for each patient and across the patient cohort.

- Development of computer codes in MATLAB and Python to implement tasks 1–3.

- Contribution to the preparation of written and visual materials for the presentation of scientific results at conferences and in scientific publications.

The estimated time required to complete these tasks is 24 months from the starting date of the contract.

Qualifications

Master's degree in applied mathematics, physics, or engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

-

- Academic qualifications (maximum 30 points).

- 1.

Up to 10 points will be awarded based on the weighted average grade of the applicant's Bachelor's degree transcript (or equivalent qualification granting access to a Master's degree) and Master's degree transcript.

This weighted average grade will be calculated by employing the average grade of each degree and using the number of ECTS as weighting coefficients.





Preference will be given to applicants holding degrees in Mathematics, Physics, or Civil, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering.

For applicants holding degrees in other Natural Sciences or Engineering disciplines, a weighting factor of 70% of the average transcript grade will be applied.

For applicants holding degrees in fields other than those mentioned above, a weighting factor of 10% will be applied.

Up to 10 points will be awarded based on the weighted average grades obtained by the applicant in Bachelor's and Master's courses related to the project tasks as follows: up to 1 point for each 1 ECTS credit in courses related to Calculus and Linear Algebra; up to 2 points for each 1 ECTS credit in courses related to Statistics, Probability, Numerical Methods, Scientific Programming, Computational Mechanics, and Differential Equations; and up to 3 points for each 1 ECTS credit in courses related to applications of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering in Biology and Medicine.

For these courses, the same weighting applied to the overall academic transcript according to the degree obtained will also be applied.

- 3.

Up to 6 points will be awarded for complementary training courses related to the research project tasks, at a rate of up to 1.5 points for each completed course.

- 4.

Up to 4 points will be awarded for academic awards and scholarships obtained through competitive calls, with a maximum of 1 point per achievement.

- Experience related to the activities to be carried out (maximum 40 points).

- 1.

Experience in the use of differential equation models of cancer growth and treatment response to obtain personalized tumor predictions through simulation (maximum 10 points).

Up to 0.5 points will be awarded for each month of experience.

- 2.

Experience in the parameterization of differential equation models using least-squares techniques and Bayesian calibration (maximum 10 points).

Up to 0.5 points will be awarded for each month of experience.

- 3.

Experience in the identification of mechanistic biomarkers and in the statistical analysis of calibration and prediction results from cancer models (maximum 10 points).

Up to 0.5 points will be awarded for each month of experience.

- 4.





Experience in developing MATLAB and Python code (maximum 10 points).

Up to 0.5 points will be awarded for each month of experience.

- 5.

Other academic achievements (maximum 10 points).

Awards, scholarships, and research contracts related to the project tasks obtained through competitive calls will be considered, with up to 2 points awarded for each achievement.

- English proficiency (maximum 10 points).

Demonstrable knowledge of English at intermediate level or above, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, will be awarded up to 10 points (A2: 2 points; B1: 4 points; B2: 6 points; C1: 8 points; C2: 10 points).

- Personal interview (maximum 20 points).

Applicants obtaining more than 50 points in Sections A–C will be invited to a personal interview, during which they must demonstrate their knowledge and ability to perform the tasks described above.

A minimum score of 65 points will be required to be eligible for the contract.

The selection process will establish a reserve list of applicants meeting this requirement.

If no applicant achieves a score higher than 65 points, the position may remain vacant.

The interview score does not count towards inclusion in the waiting list, a consideration that is extended to the score that allows the position to be declared vacant.
