The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG shares principles of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team that is supported by high-end and innovative technologies and a flexible and efficient administration. Within the Technology and Business Development Office (TBDO), the Innovation & Business Manager will support and guide the scientific community, with a particular focus on early-career researchers, to transform technologies and research advances into solutions with societal impact. The role combines technology transfer, business development and new venture creation responsibilities with a broader mandate to foster an innovation-oriented culture across the organization. The successful candidate will support the identification and maturation of emerging opportunities, promote entrepreneurial thinking among researchers and strengthen CRG’s relationships with internal and external innovation stakeholders. We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive innovation professional with strong business development capabilities and a solid understanding of life sciences research, technology commercialization and venture development. The position will contribute to the exploitation of CRG’s intellectual property portfolio while supporting a broad pipeline of early-stage ideas, translational projects and innovation opportunities. The Innovation & Business Manager will work closely with scientists, innovators, business developers, entrepreneurs, investors, industry representatives, key opinion leaders, intellectual property professionals and legal advisers. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Foster an innovation and value creation culture across CRG through initiatives that engage researchers, professional teams and administrative functions, encourage entrepreneurial thinking and promote the early identification of opportunities. Scout, assess, prioritise and accompany throughout its development, early-stage scientific ideas, technologies and projects with potential for translation, commercialisation, industry collaboration or venture creation. Guide and support researchers and project teams in developing value propositions, applications, proof-of-concept plans, development pathways, milestones, resource requirements,
risks and decision points. Assess unmet needs, market potential, competitive positioning and commercial viability, and define and implement the most appropriate value creation pathway, including licensing, collaborative development, sponsored research, strategic partnerships or spin-off creation. Collaborate with stakeholders across the One CRG community and coordinate engagement with industry, investors, entrepreneurs, key opinion leaders, accelerators and innovation partners to deliver the TBDO mission and contribute to the CRG Strategic Plan. Coordinate funding, partnering and venture development activities, including project presentations, business plans, due diligence materials, governance and corporate structures, while monitoring relevant trends, opportunities and impact indicators. Professional experience Must Have You have scientific background in molecular biology You have a strong entrepreneurial mindset You have proven experience in innovation activities in the academic life sciences sector Training in entrepreneurship and project valorisation methodology to transform basic knowledge ‘from the lab into innovations for the marketplace’ A minimum of 3 years’ experience in business development and/or technology transfer Desirable but not required/ Nice to have Basic corporate finance Education and training You hold a Ph D in Molecular Biology or equivalent Languages You are highly proficient in English,
preferably also Spanish and Catalan Technical skills Written skills to elaborate financial and business reports Skills to elaborate marketing material You have advanced MS Office skills. Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales. Target start date: 13th August 2026.
