USP‑CEU is seeking excellent postdoctoral researchers interested in applying for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA‑PF 2026) .The University CEU holds the HR Excellence in Research (HRS4R) Award and is strongly committed to attracting and supporting international research talent.

Hosting Research Group

The Neuromusculoskeletal and Biomechanics Research Group (NeumBReG) focuses on advancing knowledge in neuromusculoskeletal science and human biomechanics, with a primary emphasis on chronic ankle instability, isokinetic performance, and movement analysis. The group conducts experimental and applied research integrating physiotherapy, sports science, and biomedical engineering.

NeumBReG benefits from a modern Physical Therapy Research Laboratory equipped with inertial motion sensors (XSENS), force platforms, isokinetic dynamometry (ISOMED 2000), linear encoders, EMG systems, and 3D motioncapture technology. This infrastructure supports highprecision assessment of motor control, athletic performance, and neuromuscular function.

Beyond research, the group leads the Master’s Programme in Sports Biomechanics and supervises multiple PhD theses in related fields, fostering a vibrant scientific environment with strong mentorship,



international collaborations, and a track record of high‑impact publications and clinical innovation.

The supervisor, Francisco García‑Muro is Full Professor of Physiotherapy and PI of the Neuromusculoskeletal and Biomechanics Research Group (NeumBReG). He serves as subdirector of the Physical Therapy Research Unit, providing access to advanced biomechanics infrastructure. He also directs the MSc in Sports Biomechanics and supervises multiple doctoral projects, ensuring strong scientific guidance and an active research environment.

Research Project Description

This project aims to investigate biomechanical risk factors and performance‑related markers associated with lower‑limb injuries in football and basketball players. Using wearable inertial sensors, force‑platform assessments, surface electromyography, and 3D motion‑capture technologies, the study will characterize movement patterns during high‑demand actions such as cutting, landing, sprinting, and jump‑landing sequences.



These actions are highly prevalent in both sports and are strongly linked to injuries such as ankle instability, ACL tears, patellofemoral pain, and muscle strains.

The project will combine laboratory‑based testing with on‑field assessments to capture ecologically valid data. Machine‑learning models will be applied to identify dysfunctional neuromuscular strategies, asymmetries, and kinetic‑kinematic deviations that predispose athletes to injury. Longitudinal monitoring will allow the detection of early changes in motor control associated with fatigue or overload.

Based on these findings, the project will develop individualized intervention protocols integrating strength diagnostics, neuromuscular training, and sport‑specific corrective drills. The ultimate goal is to create a predictive and preventive framework that enhances athlete safety, supports evidence‑based return‑to‑play decisions, and optimizes performance in football and basketball.

Candidate requirements: P ostdoctoral candidates of any nationality (max. 7 years after defense) with:

- Physiotherapy, Biomechanics, or sportsinjury–related fields.
- Strong background in sports performance and biomechanics, with solid knowledge of musculoskeletal injury mechanisms.

For MSCA-PF 26 call, at the deadline for the submission of proposals (09/09/2026) candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline.

Those files received before 15th of June will be considered for MSCA-PF 2026 call. Applications received after this date , will be considered for other calls after discussion with the candidate.
