Funditec Research - Digital is Funditec’s unit specializing in applied cybersecurity.

Funditec Research - Digital is seeking to hire a Principal Research Engineer in Applied Cybersecurity and Intelligent Systems to coordinate a research line focused on the convergence of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, developing innovative solutions for strategic sectors such as the connected industry, critical infrastructure, European data spaces, digital health, defense and national security, media, renewable energy, smart transportation, financial services, and digital public administration.

Strategic Responsibilities

Scientific and Technical Leadership

- Leading multidisciplinary teams on high-impact R&D;&I; projects, coordinating ongoing projects and research initiatives in cybersecurity and software development.
- Advanced expertise in cybersecurity applied to artificial intelligence, including protection against adversarial attacks, data and model poisoning, security in high-risk systems in compliance with European regulations, and technological resilience against emerging threats.
- Experience in using artificial intelligence techniques to strengthen cybersecurity,



such as automatic anomaly detection models, generation of intelligent incident responses, and development of AI solutions that improve monitoring, prediction, and defense in critical and distributed environments.
- Conceptualization and design of security architectures for distributed systems, edge/fog computing, and federated data platforms.

International Project Management

- Technical coordination within European consortia (Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, EDF).
- Preparation and submission of competitive proposals to national (AEI, CDTI) and international agencies.
- Institutional representation on technical committees, working groups, and standardization bodies (ETSI, IEEE, ISO).

Applied Technological Innovation

- Development of TRL 2–5 research solutions for proof of concept and laboratory validation.
- Technology transfer through publications, demonstrators, and collaboration agreements.
- Active collaboration with key sectors: automotive, defense and security, industry, energy, and digital health.

Target Profile

Academic Background

- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and/or a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Cybersecurity or Distributed Systems Security.
- The following will be highly valued: PhD in fields related to cybersecurity, as well as additional training in technology project management.

Research Experience





- Minimum of 5 years in applied cybersecurity and intelligent systems research, with at least 2 years in technical leadership roles.
- Demonstrable participation in competitive national/European projects as principal investigator or technical coordinator.
- A solid track record in transferring research results to the industrial sector through public-private partnerships.

Specialized technical skills

- Security architectures for distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native environments.
- AI security: adversarial robustness, privacy-preserving ML, federated learning, explainable AI.
- Emerging technologies: applied quantum computing, blockchain for traceability, zero-trust architectures.
- Advanced platforms: Kubernetes, Istio, Apache Kafka, TensorFlow Extended, MLOps pipelines.

Management Skills

- Leadership of interdisciplinary teams in dynamic environments.
- Financial management of projects.
- International coordination with technological, industrial, and academic partners.

Significant Scientific Output

- Publications in Q1/Q2 journals (JCR/SJR) and top-tier conferences.
- Participation in international scientific committees.
- Involvement in patents or utility models.

Language Skills and Mobility

- Certified C1/C2 level English, with experience in international technical presentations.
- Availability to travel to meetings with European partners and scientific events.
- Ability to attract international talent and manage multicultural teams.
