In this role you contribute to reducing environmental chemical impacts by coordinating monitoring activities and producing robust data to back regulatory decisions. You will work with technical specialists to plan and deliver monitoring projects, supporting policy development and environmental protection.
You’ll engage with government and regulators, handling technical responses and permitting-related tasks. The position sits in the Chemicals Surveillance and Emerging Risks Team, offering opportunities to influence regulatory actions and apply data-driven insights.
This is a national, hybrid role with opportunities to influence across multiple sectors.

- Provide technical support to the Chemicals Investigation Programme and the water industry collaboration to control chemicals in sewage and the environment
- Support River Basin Planning lead and PEWS lead in delivering monitoring activities
- Produce technical responses for government questions, inquiries, and information requests
- Assist with permitting work across sectors to address chemical issues and develop regulatory strategies
- Oversee elements of work with the Chief Scientists Group
- Collaborate with Defra, other UK Regulators, external partners, and the National Laboratory Service
- Coordinate monitoring data to ensure robustness, accessibility, and fit-for-purpose quality
Responsabilidades
- Awareness of environmental chemical concerns and ability to work with technical reports
- Government/regulatory or industrial experience in environmental regimes (air, water, waste, etc.)
- Self-motivated, well-organised, detail-oriented, able to work independently and in a team
- Comfort with virtual teamwork and balancing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptable communication style and strong writing skills
- Proficiency in Word, Power Point, Excel; familiar with MS Teams and Share Point
