Kaleidoscope Counseling & Assessment is a mental health center that provides services to children, adolescents, young adults, couples, and families. The population of the Center is approximately 60% young adults/adults, and 40% children/adolescents, with opportunities to work with couples and families. Kaleidoscope also provides group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of diagnoses, including Autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and social skills needs.

Practicum placements are 12-15 hours per week.

The following is a list of activities in which practicum students are expected to participate:

- Delivery of psychotherapy services to clients, including individual, family, and group therapy with a minimum of 6 clients per week (often 6 clients plus 1 group)
- Individual Supervision: minimum of 1 hr/week with individual supervisor
- Group Supervision: 2 hrs/week; this will consist of case reviews as well as more structured seminars by professionals in the community; students will also be expected to make one presentation in group seminar on a topic of their choice. Group supervision meets Tuesdays 9-11.




- Other practicum hours are expected to be filled by administrative duties (such as progress note writing, case management, and community outreach).
- Students must have at least two afternoon/evenings (or Saturday) available for clients.
- Students are required to carry student liability insurance at the time of practicum.

Preferred Applicant Qualities

- Applicants are not required to have prior experience to complete a placement at the center.
- Applicants should have interest in learning systemic approaches combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy.
- Applicants should have an interest in working with children and families as well as adults.
- Preference is given to applicants who have taken or are enrolled in the Family Therapy and Group Therapy courses.
