Overview The Earth System Services Group (ESS) within the Earth Sciences Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC‑CNS) researches the impact of weather, atmospheric chemistry and climate on socio‑economic sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, water resources, urban development and climate risk management. The role focuses on developing next‑generation climate services, with a primary emphasis on renewable energy while supporting agriculture and water management.

Key Responsibilities

Lead user‑oriented research in climate services.

Post‑process climate predictions to develop climate‑services products.

Design and implement automated workflows for data loading, post‑processing, evaluation, visualization and storage, following coding standards and testing practices, and deployable on HPC systems.

Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present at international conferences.

Collaborate with scientists in the group and the department to foster synergies.

Contribute to project‑proposal preparation.





Support management of work packages in EU projects, including teleconferences, workshops, meetings and deliverable writing.

Engage with users of climate services.

Qualifications and Experience We welcome highly motivated researchers with a strong background in climate science, experience in climate prediction or climate services, and a keen interest in translating scientific advances into operational solutions that benefit society.

Research Projects Current projects include the flagship Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S2_412b) contract led by BSC, and additional European and national research projects spanning sub‑seasonal to decadal timescales.
