The Institute Sant Joan de Deu and Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in Barcelona are reference centres for the study and treatment of paediatric cancer, while the Institute of Oncology of Asturias (IUOPA) at the University of Oviedo is a reference centre in cancer genomics and precision medicine. Both institutes have collaborated to improve paediatric haematologic cancer research through cancer genomics and novel molecular approaches, aiming to better understand tumour development, relapse, resistance to therapy and identify potential therapeutic opportunities.
IUOPA’s main headquarters is located at the University of Oviedo School of Medicine, Oviedo.
We are looking for a highly motivated Predoctoral Researcher for the Molecular Biology of Cancer group led by Dr. Xose S Puente at the University of Oviedo School of Medicine.
Research Description
Genomic Characterisation of Paediatric Leukemia.
This doctoral project will focus on the genomic characterisation of paediatric leukemias to identify the genomic alterations driving disease transformation and evolution. The study will seek to understand how specific mutations lead to the expansion of specific haematopoietic progenitors, and to identify molecular pathways promoting or inhibiting the development of specific haematological cell types. Methods will include whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing, single‑cell sequencing, and validation through CRISPR editing in cell lines and/or mouse models. The results will contribute to a better understanding of paediatric leukemias and to identifying mechanisms that could improve patient management.
