We're hiring a senior PHP engineer in Valencia to work with a fast-growing fintech company. The new colleague joins a dedicated team: employed by us, working side by side with the CTO.

You will decide and select what new resources will join the team once you are settled in the organization.

We are looking for an experienced Principal PHP software engineer who can work independently, deliver new features from scratch, and help set the technical foundation for future growth and AI integration. You’ll decide, together with the CTO, about architecture, maintenance and new features — with strong focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop new modules and extend existing features in plain PHP and MySQL with the support of AI tooling.
- Ensure scalability and performance as the platform grows.
- Work closely with the CTO on technical design, priorities, and implementations.
- Document code and architecture to support maintainability and onboarding of future team members.
- Deliver clean and control that reusable, and well-structured code has been generated.

Must-Have Skills

- 7+ years of PHP experience, with proven ability to build applications without frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL (data modeling, joins, indexing, query optimization).
- Solid understanding of software architecture and modular code design supported by AI tooling.
- Proficiency with Git (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
- Professional communication in English (B2+).
- Ability to work independently and deliver end-to-end features.

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Experience in fintech (payments, invoicing, virtual cards).
- Awareness of security best practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or deployment scripting.




- Basic understanding of frontend (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Willing to do frontend work alongside backend
- Experience with API integrations (REST, webhooks, SSO)
- Exposure to mobile wallets, tokenization, Apple Pay or Google Pay
- Experience working in a certified environment (PCI DSS, ISO 27001)

- Used to maximizing security and compliance. Write code that holds up in audits: input validation, authentication, careful handling of financial and personal data. Support the certification work.
- Able to pave the way for new developers. Document logic and decisions, review code, and help onboard the engineers who come after.
- Later on: you can contribute to the backend side of the mobile wallet app (Apple Pay and Google Wallet), which is planned for after this year.
