About FisicAI
FisicAI is a Barcelona-based robotics and AI startup. We bring together robotics, motion control and AI to make robots more capable and useful in real-world environments, working with clients and partners across Europe and the US. We are an early-stage team and we are now hiring our first senior engineers.
The role
You will develop the motion and control capabilities that turn high-level AI decisions into safe, effective behavior on real robot arms and grippers. You will own problems end to end, from algorithm design and simulation to testing on hardware in our Barcelona lab, working on our core manipulation system as well as applications for client use cases, some in collaboration with external partners. As one of our founding engineers, you will shape our technical direction and mentor our junior engineers.
What you’ll do
· Design and implement algorithms for robot control, motion planning and manipulation, combining model-based and learning-based approaches.
· Develop and maintain robotics software in C++ and Python, taking it from prototype to reliable, tested code running on real robots.
· Build and use simulation environments (e.g., MuJoCo, Isaac Sim, Gazebo) to develop, train and validate controllers and policies.
· Apply learning-based methods such as reinforcement learning and imitation learning to manipulation tasks.
· Integrate control with perception, AI and hardware components, working closely with the rest of the team.
· Contribute to research, external collaborations and, where relevant,
open-source robotics software.
What we’re looking for
· PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years.
· Solid foundations in robot kinematics and dynamics: spatial transformations, Jacobians, forward and inverse kinematics.
· Experience with reinforcement learning, imitation learning or foundation models for robotics (e.g., VLAs, LLMs).
· Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, Linux (Ubuntu) and robotics simulators such as MuJoCo, Isaac Sim or Gazebo.
· Hands-on experience with real robot arms or hands.
· Ability to work independently, make progress under uncertainty and adapt as priorities evolve, with genuine motivation for our mission.
· Experience mentoring junior engineers or researchers, and fluent English with clear communication.
Nice to have
· Experience with robot control, such as operational space / Cartesian impedance control, torque control or model predictive control.
· Familiarity with computer vision and perception for manipulation.
· Publications in robotics or ML venues, or contributions to open-source robotics software.
What we offer
· Challenging, real-world robotics and AI problems with a small, ambitious team, and end-to-end ownership from algorithm design to real-robot testing.
· A founding engineer role reporting directly to the CEO, with real influence on technical direction and the opportunity to grow and lead the engineering team.
· A well-equipped lab in Barcelona (robot arms, grippers, cameras, input devices).
· A competitive salary package, according to the candidate experience, plus founding-team equity.
· Adaptable working arrangements.
