About the Opportunity

XML International is recruiting an experienced Geospatial Data Engineer – Geocoding & Routing Specialist to support the development, maintenance and optimization of enterprise geospatial services in an international technology environment.

This role focuses on critical location search, geocoding, reverse geocoding and routing capabilities that support general mapping platforms and operational applications.

We are seeking a technically skilled GIS professional with strong experience in Python development, spatial databases, geocoding technologies and road-network routing systems.

Key Responsibilities

Geocoding & Location Search

- Maintain, optimize and enhance geocoding, reverse geocoding and place-search services.
- Improve geocoding accuracy, address matching, locator performance and search relevance.
- Prepare, integrate and validate authoritative geospatial reference datasets, including addresses, geographic names and points of interest (POIs).
- Investigate geographic coverage gaps, data quality issues and search performance bottlenecks.

Routing & Network Data Engineering

- Manage and maintain routable road-network datasets and associated services.
- Validate road connectivity, network topology, travel restrictions and transportation modes.
- Evaluate routing execution results and identify opportunities to improve accuracy and performance.
- Develop scalable solutions to address routing and spatial data challenges.

Python Development & Automation

- Design and implement automated Python workflows for geospatial data processing and validation.




- Develop custom APIs and integrate geospatial services with enterprise applications.
- Build automated testing frameworks and monitoring solutions.
- Optimize spatial database performance and data-processing workflows.
- Support reliable, maintainable and scalable geospatial service delivery.

Technology Evaluation & Documentation

- Evaluate commercial and open-source geospatial technologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability and automation.
- Maintain clear technical documentation covering architecture, workflows and system changes.
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to resolve complex geospatial engineering challenges.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in GIS engineering, enterprise geospatial services, geocoding or routing development.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Strong experience with spatial database management and optimization.
- Practical experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with geocoding engines, routing services and complex road-network topologies.
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS locators, Network Analyst or comparable enterprise geospatial technologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.




- Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively and produce high-quality technical documentation.

Desirable Technical Experience

- Open-source geocoding and search technologies such as Pelias, Nominatim, Photon, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Routing engines such as Valhalla, OSRM, GraphHopper or pgRouting.
- OpenStreetMap (OSM) data processing and integration.
- PostGIS performance optimization.
- Multilingual location search implementations.
- Git version control and automated deployment pipelines.
