Tu Misión

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the next stage of Fourvenues' technology organisation.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional technical leadership role with a mission that goes beyond delivering software. You will help establish engineering excellence across the organisation, strengthen our technical foundations, improve development practices, and empower teams to build reliable, scalable and maintainable systems.

Your initial focus will be supporting the consolidation and technical evolution of our Payments engineering team, helping establish stronger architectural foundations, clear technical ownership, and engineering practices that enable the team to scale sustainably.

Beyond Payments, you will work across engineering teams to identify systemic challenges, influence technical decisions, mentor engineers and establish common standards that improve the way we design, build and operate software.

We are looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise, pragmatic architectural thinking and hands-on engineering with the ability to influence others and drive meaningful organisational improvements.

Qué harás

- Drive engineering excellence across the organisation. Help define, promote and evolve engineering standards, architectural principles, testing strategies and development practices that improve software quality, maintainability and delivery reliability.

- Strengthen and consolidate Payments engineering. Initially work closely with the Payments team to improve technical ownership, architecture, reliability, development workflows and operational maturity, building a solid foundation for future growth.

- Lead complex technical decisions across teams. Act as a trusted technical reference, helping engineers and engineering leaders navigate architectural trade-offs, solve challenging problems and make pragmatic, sustainable decisions.

- Design and evolve scalable software architectures. Apply principles such as Domain-Driven Design, Hexagonal Architecture, SOLID and clear domain boundaries when appropriate, balancing engineering quality with business needs and delivery speed.

- Remain hands-on with critical engineering challenges. Contribute directly to system design, implementation, refactoring, code reviews and technical investigations, particularly in areas requiring deep expertise or cross-team coordination.

- Improve developer experience and engineering productivity. Identify friction in development workflows and introduce improvements to tooling, local environments, CI/CD pipelines, documentation and automation that help teams deliver software more effectively.

- Champion modern AI-assisted engineering practices. Explore and establish effective ways of integrating AI coding assistants and agents into software development, supported by appropriate quality gates, automated testing and engineering ownership.

- Improve platform reliability and operational resilience. Help teams strengthen observability, failure handling,



automated testing, performance and production readiness, especially in business-critical systems such as Payments.

- Mentor and elevate engineering talent. Support engineers in growing their technical capabilities, encourage knowledge sharing and help develop a culture where teams can make high-quality technical decisions independently.

- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product and business stakeholders. Translate business priorities into sustainable technical strategies, making trade-offs visible and ensuring engineering investments support Fourvenues' long-term growth.

Tu perfil

- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience in senior technical leadership roles such as Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Tech Lead or equivalent.

- Strong backend engineering expertise, with experience designing, developing and evolving complex production systems, APIs and distributed or service-oriented architectures.

- Solid knowledge of software architecture and engineering principles, including Domain-Driven Design, Hexagonal Architecture, SOLID, clean code and automated testing, with the judgement to apply them pragmatically rather than dogmatically.

- Experience working across multiple engineering teams, influencing architectural decisions, establishing shared technical practices and driving improvements without relying on direct management authority.

- Hands-on experience with modern backend technologies. Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, PHP, Python or similar ecosystems is valuable. We prioritise strong engineering fundamentals, architectural judgement and adaptability over expertise in a single language or framework.

- Experience improving engineering workflows and developer productivity, including CI/CD pipelines, development environments, testing automation, observability and developer tooling.

- Strong understanding of reliability, scalability and operational excellence, particularly in systems involving transactions, asynchronous processing, integrations and complex business workflows.

- Interest in AI-assisted software development, with a practical understanding of how AI tools and agents can improve engineering productivity without compromising quality, security or maintainability.

- Excellent communication, mentoring and collaboration skills. You are comfortable influencing engineers, technical leaders and product stakeholders, explaining complex decisions and building alignment across teams.

- A pragmatic, autonomous and proactive mindset. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, identifying the highest-impact problems and balancing immediate business needs with long-term technical sustainability.

- Availability to work in a hybrid model, with regular on-site presence at our Valencia or Madrid offices.

Valoramos

- Experience designing or evolving payment processing, transaction management, financial integrations or other business-critical systems where correctness, reliability and consistency are essential.

- Experience modernising legacy systems, reducing architectural complexity or guiding the evolution from monolithic applications towards more modular architectures.

- A track record of establishing engineering standards, improving developer experience or leading technical transformation initiatives across multiple teams.

- Experience introducing AI-assisted development workflows, internal tooling or automation to improve engineering effectiveness.





- Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping engineering organisations build stronger technical leadership and decision-making capabilities.
