Naxxar Energy Europe is a pan-European renewable energy and battery storage platform headquartered in Frankfurt. We acquire local platforms and development-stage and ready-to-build projects, take them through construction, and own and operate them alongside long-term infrastructure investors. Our focus is standalone battery storage, solar PV and onshore wind in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, and France.
Our model is buy, build and operate. A lean central team sets group standards and takes the key decisions; country platforms deliver locally. We are building that central team now, from the ground up. This is a founding role, not a seat in an established organization.
- Business Division: Project Delivery
- Level: VP, member of the Project Delivery leadership team
- Reporting to: CBDO – Chief Business Development Officer
- Technologies: Standalone BESS, solar PV and onshore wind
- Location: Madrid based, preferably; frequent travel to sites, suppliers and Frankfurt HQ
- Purpose of the Role: As Head of EPC Management you turn ready-to-build projects into operating assets on budget, on schedule and safely. You set Naxxar's delivery standard – contracting strategy, procurement, construction, and owner's oversight – and apply it across countries and technologies. Projects are financed with non-recourse project debt and may involve long- term capital partners, so you deliver for lenders and investors as well as for Naxxar.
Scope of Responsibility
Before NTP – supporting the Project Development teams
- Constructability, grid and layout input from late-stage development; CAPEX and schedule estimates that underpin investment decisions and the development-stage gates.
- Contracting strategy for each project: full EPC wrap or multi-contract; FIDIC, NEC or bespoke forms; risk allocation,
liquidated damages, performance guarantees and security packages.
- Procurement of major equipment (BESS systems, modules, inverters, turbines, transformers, balance of plant), including portfolio-level framework agreements that capture Naxxar's scale; supplier due diligence covering bankability, credit, warranties, cybersecurity and supply-chain compliance.
- Negotiation of EPC, supply, BoP and long-term service agreements to signing, as conditions for NTP, together with Legal and Structured Finance.
- Technical interface with lenders' and investors' technical advisers during financing and transactions.
From NTP (FID) to COD – accountable
- Take over each project from the Heads of Solar, Wind and BESS at NTP under a documented handover.
- Own the construction timeline and budget, contingency and critical path: change control, claims management and early warning of cost or schedule risk.
- Owner's oversight of contractors and owner's engineers; progress reporting and drawdown certification to lenders and investors.
- Health, safety, environment and quality on all construction sites, applying the group HSE and quality standards set by Asset Management.
- Commissioning, performance testing and taking-over; handover to Asset Management at COD under an agreed protocol; warranty and defect claims through the defects liability period, jointly with Asset Management.
Organization
- Build and lead a small central EPC Management technical team and decide what is done in-house and what by owner's engineers.
- Establish the delivery playbook (templates, gates, reporting) used by all country platforms.
- Work with Legal, Finance and HSE colleagues across the group; these functions do not report to this role.
Main Requirements & Qualifications
- Substantial experience – typically 15 years or more – delivering utility-scale renewable energy or battery storage projects, including at least five years leading project delivery at director level.
- Owner's-side experience at a developer, IPP or utility is essential; experience at a major EPC contractor/construction company or OEM is a strong advantage.
- Direct delivery of grid-scale BESS projects, plus solar PV or onshore wind.
- Delivery in several European markets, ideally including one or more of the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain.
- Project-financed deliveries: working with lenders' technical advisers, conditions precedent and drawdown mechanics.
- Personal lead on negotiating FIDIC or NEC-based EPC and major supply agreements.
- Degree in engineering, construction management or a related technical discipline; chartered engineer status is an advantage.
- Fluent English; Spanish, Italian, German or French is an advantage.
- Comfortable building from scratch in a lean, hands-on team with high-standard Cultural Values.
What We Offer A founding role in a growing pan-European platform, competitive fixed and variable pay, and eligibility for the group's long-term incentive plan [subject to final terms].
