Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer, Backend – Protection based in Spain.Join an innovative global payments technology company building infrastructure that helps businesses simplify payment operations, optimize performance, and protect revenue.

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Protection team, you will design and develop scalable solutions for payment dispute management, fraud prevention, and risk automation.

You will take ownership of critical backend systems, from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

In a fully remote, collaborative environment, your contributions will have a direct impact on product quality, customer outcomes, and the future of payment protection.

Accountabilities Backend Engineering and Architecture: Design, build, deploy, and maintain robust backend systems, taking ownership of solutions throughout their entire lifecycle.

Make architectural decisions regarding service boundaries, integration patterns, and data models to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.Expand dispute management coverage across the broader payment network by integrating additional payment service providers and ensuring consistent functionality across different platforms.Contribute to backend development as the primary focus, while supporting dashboard frontend development when needed to deliver complete product experiences.Quality, Reliability, and Monitoring: Establish and maintain high engineering standards through testing, code reviews, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Engineering Foundations: Help establish team conventions, operational tooling, on-call processes, and development practices as the function grows,



balancing foundational improvements with frequent, high-quality product delivery.

Proven experience owning backend systems end to end, from architecture and development through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance.Strong software engineering and system design skills, with the ability to design scalable backend architectures and make sound technical decisions in evolving environments.High standards for code quality, testing, reliability, and operational excellence, particularly when developing systems where failures can have significant financial or operational consequences.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues and balance speed of delivery with long-term system quality.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Engineering and Product stakeholders in a remote, distributed environment.Willingness to contribute to frontend development when necessary, although backend engineering remains the primary focus.
