Technical Director – Live Events (Freelance, per project) Barcelona
· Spain & Europe About Sugar for Events Sugar for Events is a Barcelona design and production studio. We deliver conferences, gala dinners, launches and brand experiences for international agencies and general brands: design, technical architecture and production management for events in Spain and Europe. Recent work includes a 400-guest conference with six supercars inside the Hotel Arts ballroom and a gala dinner inside La Llotja de Mar, a protected 14th-century hall. The Role The Technical Director owns the technical side of a Sugar production, from the first drawing to the last truck out. You turn the creative concept into something that can be built safely, on time and on budget, and you lead it on site. You will work across very different venues, from heritage buildings with strict restrictions to hotel ballrooms, conference centres and outdoor sets, often with international agencies and their clients in the room.

Key Responsibilities
• Own the technical design of each project: staging, rigging, audio, video, LED, lighting, power and SFX
• Produce and review technical drawings, plots, renders and load-in schedules
• Translate the creative vision into buildable solutions
• Get every drawing approved by the venue before anything goes in
• Manage risk assessments, structural and electrical requirements and heritage restrictions
• Lead load-in, rehearsals, show and load-out




• Manage technical crew and suppliers: AV, staging, rigging, scenography
• Keep technical costs inside the agreed budget and flag risks early Essential
• Proven track record as Technical Director or Technical Production Manager in live, corporate or entertainment events
• Minimum 5 years in a senior technical role
• Fluent in Vectorworks and 3ds Max; AutoCAD for venue plans
• Strong working knowledge of audio, video, LED, lighting, rigging, staging, power and crew management
• Fluent English; Spanish is a strong plus
• Available for projects in Barcelona and travel within Spain and Europe Desirable
• Experience in heritage venues, gala dinners, product launches or automotive reveals
• Lighting pre-visualisation (Capture, WYSIWYG or similar)
• Broadcast, streaming and hybrid event set-ups
• Temporary structures and certification requirements in Spain
