The Opportunity We are looking for a highly skilled R&D; Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our Power Conversion Solutions team at Hitachi Energy in Seville, Spain. In this role, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of embedded software for advanced power electronic converters, combining low-level firmware development, Embedded Linux, and real-time control technologies. You will play a key role in maintaining and evolving Yocto-based Linux platforms, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performance embedded solutions. • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware and software in C/C++ for power conversion systems operating on bare-metal, RTOS, and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Maintain and optimise Yocto Project-based Linux distributions, including recipes, layers, BSPs, images, SDKs, and reproducible builds.
• Manage Linux/Yocto updates, patching, security vulnerabilities (CVEs), and software dependencies to ensure system reliability and cybersecurity.
• Integrate and maintain bootloaders, kernels, device trees, drivers, and low-level communication interfaces.
• Develop and implement real-time control algorithms for power converters, collaborating closely with control and hardware engineering teams.
• Perform debugging, automated testing, CI/CD integration, and hardware/HIL validation, ensuring software quality and performance. Your Background




• Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Automation, Industrial Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong hands-on experience with Yocto Project and Embedded Linux maintenance, including patching, backporting, BitBake, OpenEmbedded, and BSP management.
• Solid programming skills in C/C++, with Python experience for scripting, automation, and development tools.
• Experience with microcontrollers, ARM/DSP architectures, bare-metal systems, RTOS, Linux kernel, and low-level drivers.
• Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I²C, CAN, UART, Ethernet, Modbus), Git, CI/CD, and embedded software testing.
• Understanding of power electronics and closed-loop control systems, with strong analytical skills and an advanced level of English.
