About PLD:
PLD Space is an international companyon a mission to transport satellites into space, vertically integrating the engineering, testing, manufacturing, and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space hasestablisheditself as a integral benchmark in the small satellite launch sector. Its family of MIURA launchers and LINCE crewed capsulepositionthe company as a leader in European technological sovereignty for space transportation, covering the full spectrum of space missions.
PLD Spaceoperatesover 188,000 m² of facilities in Elche, Teruel (Spain), Kourou (French Guiana), and Duqm (Oman), enabling the company to provide comprehensive satellite and payload launch services into space.
Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in‑class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities
Mission
As a Structures Analysis Engineer at PLD Space, your main mission is to optimize and validate the(JR1)design solution, contributing to weight optimization and guaranteeing rocket’s performance. You will also be involved you in hardware testing which is a key aspect of the job since it will allow you to validate designs and FEM via test correlations.
Responsibilities
Achieve stress justificationfor new designs by using hand calcs and FEA methods for composites andmetals.
Perform testpredictions and test correlations in order to improve FEA confidence.
Perform complexmodelling by creating global finite element model (GFEM) and detailedmodels (DFEM) both primary and secondary structures.
Perform linear andnon-linear structural analyses.
Perform linear bucklinganalyses.
Perform random, sineand modaldynamic analyses.
Participate in the reviewprocess, preparing thenecessary reports, memos and formal compliance documents (written inEnglish).
Liaise with otherfunctions when required to ensure stress requirements are needed.
Necessary Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’sdegree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or related engineering.
Experience with structuralanalysis, all methods are valuables (hand calculations, FEA linear,non-linear, buckling, explicit dynamics).
Fundamental knowledgeof metallic structure behaviour and failure modes like strength andstability.
Experience with FiniteElement Analysis software.
Self-motivated and ableto work under pressure to meet deadlines, dealing with situations that areconstrained by time and managing different tasks at once.
Proactive and good teamworker.
Knowledge in scriptingsoftware such as MATLAB, Python or VBA
Fluent Spanish andEnglish.
Desired Requirements
Proficient in usingFinite Element Analysis principles and associated tools. Experience withHyperWorks/HyperMesh and OptiStruct is desirable.
Good Knowledge onMatLab and VBA Excel is desirable.
In-depth knowledge ofengineering principles and design techniques relation to compositematerials, classical laminate theory and finite element modellingtechniques.
Knowledge in fatigueanalysis.
Understanding ofspacecraft manufacturing methods and processes.
Experience in FEAcorrelations, structures
