We’re hiring: Scientist – Surface Chemistry & Biosensing Bioherent | Málaga, Spain

We’re looking for a hands‑on scientist with a background in

materials science or chemistry and practical biosensor experience

to help develop optical biosensing technologies for in vitro diagnostics.

What you’ll do:

Develop functional materials, surface coatings, and nanostructures for biosensing.

Optimize surface functionalization and biomolecule immobilization, particularly on silicon substrates.

Characterize materials and surfaces and investigate their effects on sensor sensitivity, background, stability, and reproducibility.

Improve consistency between functionalization batches and support the transfer of laboratory methods into scalable processes.

Work closely with chemists, immunoassay scientists, and engineers, documenting methods and findings clearly.

What we’re looking for:

BSc, MSc, or PhD in Materials Science,



Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. 3+ years of relevant experience in research, R&D;, or applied materials development.

Strong experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting skills.

Experience with silicon-based biosensors or optical and photonic platforms would be particularly valuable. Other relevant expertise includes silanization, bioconjugation, antifouling coatings, nanoparticles, and surface characterization techniques such as XPS, AFM, contact-angle measurements, or electron microscopy.
