Overview

As Principal Software Engineer and tech lead for Elastic UI (EUI), you shape the design system and React component library used across Elastic products. You set the technical direction, own architecture decisions, and mentor a global UX engineering team to deliver accessible, high-quality UI across many product teams. You’ll work closely with design leadership to translate design language into robust APIs, and explore AI-enabled improvements to design-to-code workflows.

Responsabilidades

- Set direction for component architecture, API design, theming, accessibility, and maintainability of EUI
- Make hard architectural decisions around composable patterns, migration strategy, versioning, and token systems
- Lead the Global UX engineering team, reviewing designs and unblocking difficult problems
- Translate design language into reusable component APIs in collaboration with design leadership
- Drive adoption of the design system across Elastic through cross-team collaboration
- Raise bar on accessibility, performance, and cross-browser correctness
- Mentor engineers via code review, design critique, and pairing




- Represent the Integral UX team in cross-functional planning and advocate for design system health and developer experience
- Use telemetry and feedback to identify friction and lead improvement initiatives
- Explore AI-enhanced design-to-code workflows while ensuring quality of shipped components

Requisitos principales

- Deep hands-on expertise building/reacting with React and TypeScript component libraries in production
- Strong leadership track record in architecture and driving quality across a team
- Experience designing composable, flexible APIs including patterns like compound components, render props, headless components, theming/token systems
- Strong accessibility expertise (WCAG, semantic HTML, keyboard/screen-reader)
- Experience managing lifecycle of a widely-used library: releases, deprecations, migrations, documentation
- Ability to partner with designers to translate visual intent into technical constraints and contracts
- Judgment to balance reusable abstractions with pragmatic, clear tradeoffs
- Mentoring experience and hands-on leadership in distributed/open source environments
- Curiosity about AI to improve design-system workflows with high quality guarantees
- Excellent communication for cross-functional and stakeholder alignment
