AstraZeneca seeks a Senior Scientist in Clinical AI to develop and deploy machine learning methods that advance clinical trial design, patient selection, and safety evaluation. Based in Barcelona with minimum three days per week on-site, the role involves cross-functional collaboration across cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, and immunology programs.

Responsibilities

- Develop and deploy AI/ML methods for trial design, dose optimization, biomarker discovery, and safety signal detection
- Partner with Clinical Development, Biometrics, and Regulatory teams to embed AI into study design and decision-making
- Build reusable, documented data products including pipelines, packages, and applications with software engineering rigor
- Apply modern methodologies such as foundation models, agentic AI, Bayesian inference, and causal inference with evaluation frameworks




- Contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations within internal and external communities

Requirements

- Master's or PhD in quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Biomedical Informatics, or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated AI/ML method development through delivered models, publications, or applied projects
- Hands-on experience with biological or clinical data (molecular, imaging, clinical text)
- Technical expertise in foundation models, Bayesian inference, temporal modelling, or model interpretability
- Strong Python skills, PyTorch experience, and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Excellent communication ability to translate complex methods for clinical and regulatory audiences
