About the Role
We are looking for a scientifically credible and externally focused Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Oncology to support our growing Medical Affairs presence across Spain and Portugal. Based preferably in Barcelona, you will have primary responsibility for Spain East, with secondary responsibility for Portugal through planned visits, virtual engagement and key scientific meetings. You will translate global Medical Affairs strategy into effective local execution, building trusted peer-to-peer relationships with oncology specialists and other healthcare professionals while generating insights that can improve patient pathways, inform evidence plans and support access readiness. With a particular focus on oncology and oncology supportive care, including priority new chemical entities, biologics and value-added medicines, you will contribute to pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities. The role is specifically relevant to gynaecological oncology and includes opportunities to support health-economic and real-world evidence initiatives in local healthcare settings. Working closely with Global Medical Affairs, Market Access/HEOR, Clinical Development and other cross-functional teams, you will help identify unmet medical needs, understand differences in healthcare delivery and access across Spain and Portugal, and ensure that external scientific insights inform our wider strategy. This is an opportunity to take ownership in a growing, entrepreneurial speciality pharmaceutical business while maintaining the scientific independence, integrity and non-promotional standards that underpin effective Medical Affairs. Main Duties & Responsibilities
• Build trusted scientific relationships: Develop peer-to-peer relationships with priority oncologists, investigators, hospital pharmacists, specialist nurses, pathologists, palliative care specialists, and other relevant healthcare professionals across Spain East and Portugal.
• Deliver high-quality scientific exchange: Communicate complex clinical data accurately, objectively, and in a balanced, non-promotional manner, and respond to unsolicited scientific questions through approved processes.
• Translate global strategy into local execution: Develop and deliver a focused territory plan aligned with Medical Affairs priorities, covering pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities across Spain and Portugal.
• Support access and launch readiness: Deliver scientific engagement, stakeholder mapping, congress activities, advisory boards, medical education and other initiatives that support readiness for national reimbursement,
regional and hospital access decisions.
• Generate actionable medical insights: Identify and communicate unmet needs, evidence gaps, access barriers, changes in clinical practice and developments in the competitive landscape to inform medical strategy and cross-functional planning.
• Understand patient pathways: Identify barriers to patient identification, diagnosis, biomarker testing, referral, treatment, supportive care, and continuity of care, including the organisation of home care and palliative care services.
• Contribute to Spanish and Portuguese access activities: Provide accurate scientific and clinical input to support relevant national, regional, and hospital processes, including Spanish HTA and reimbursement pathways; regional pharmacotherapeutic evaluations and hospital formularies; and INFARMED HTA, reimbursement, and hospital access processes in Portugal.
• Support evidence generation: Identify opportunities for real-world evidence, registries, investigator-initiated research, Phase IV and other post-authorisation studies, and appropriate external scientific collaborations.
• Partner with Clinical Development: Support investigator and site identification, feasibility assessments, recruitment insights, patient-journey considerations and communication of approved study results.
• Contribute to health-economic and outcomes evidence: Work with Market Access/HEOR and clinical experts to identify relevant evidence needs, including hospital resource use, unplanned admissions, emergency visits and the impact of regional variation in supportive, palliative and home-care services.
• Develop scientific networks: Build appropriate relationships with national and regional experts, scientific societies and cooperative groups relevant to the Medical Affairs plan in Spain and Portugal.
• Support scientific education and congress activity: Contribute to congress engagement, advisory boards, expert consultations and educational initiatives with clear scientific objectives.
• Adapt scientific communications: Support the localisation and field delivery of general scientific narratives, evidence platforms and approved materials, ensuring relevance to Spanish and Portuguese clinical practice.
• Strengthen cross-functional collaboration: Work with Global Medical Affairs, the General Manager for Southern Europe, Market Access/HEOR, Key Account Managers, and other functions to ensure that field insights inform access and lifecycle plans while protecting Medical Affairs' independence.
• Maintain appropriate medical-commercial boundaries: Coordinate with commercial colleagues through clearly defined account-planning processes, ensuring scientific exchange remains separate from promotional activity.
• Maintain strong therapeutic expertise: Stay current with relevant tumour types, oncology supportive care, treatment guidelines, biomarkers, diagnostics, patient pathways, and clinical evidence related to Pharmanovia assets and relevant comparators.
• Maintain high standards of field execution: Document scientific engagements, insights, commitments and follow-up accurately and promptly in approved systems, prioritising the quality and impact of interactions over activity volume alone.
• Ensure compliance and patient safety: Comply with applicable Spanish, Portuguese and European legislation, relevant industry codes, transparency requirements, company policies, quality standards and pharmacovigilance procedures.
• Escalate safety and compliance issues appropriately: Report adverse events,
special situations and product complaints promptly, and route formal medical information requests through the appropriate channels.
• Contribute to the wider Medical Affairs organisation: Share insights and best practices with colleagues across Southern Europe, contribute to cross-market projects, and support a culture of scientific curiosity, accountability, and continuous learning. Qualifications & Requirements
• Advanced scientific or clinical qualification in Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Biotechnology or an equivalent life-sciences discipline.
• Typically at least two years of successful MSL or comparable field Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Direct oncology experience, including field-based scientific engagement with oncology specialists.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical data credibly to specialist healthcare professionals.
• Fluent Spanish and fluent English, with excellent scientific communication and presentation skills.
• Proven experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with external scientific stakeholders.
• Experience planning and delivering stakeholder engagement based on scientific relevance, patient need and medical strategy.
• Demonstrable experience generating, documenting and communicating actionable medical insights.
• Good understanding of the Spanish oncology and healthcare environment, including the National Health System, regional healthcare services, hospital pharmacy and formulary processes.
• Understanding of Spanish national, regional and hospital access pathways relevant to oncology medicines.
• Strong knowledge of non-promotional Medical Affairs principles, scientific integrity and appropriate medical-commercial boundaries.
• Familiarity with relevant pharmaceutical compliance frameworks, including the Farmaindustria and EFPIA codes.
• Experience supporting scientific congresses, advisory boards, medical education or other Medical Affairs initiatives.
• Ability to identify evidence gaps and contribute to real-world evidence, clinical research or investigator-led research opportunities.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise activities and manage a multi-country territory effectively.
• Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and escalate scientific, safety, access or compliance issues appropriately.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration skills, including working with Market Access/HEOR, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs and commercial colleagues.
• Confidence using digital systems and maintaining accurate, timely records in approved platforms.
• Willingness to travel regularly across Eastern Spain, undertake planned travel to Portugal, and attend national or European meetings.
• Based in, or willing to relocate to, Spain East, preferably Barcelona, within practical reach of the territory's main oncology centres. Pay range and compensation package
