Position Summary The Senior Procurement Manager – OFCI Electrical owns the sourcing and contracting of all owner-furnished electrical equipment for IREN Spain’s data center programme: high-voltage power transformers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) for the campus substations (purchased by IREN and free-issued to the grid connection EPC contractor), medium- and low-voltage switchgear, UPS systems, generator sets, automatic transfer switches, switchboards, PDUs and modular electrical skids (E-pods). These are the long-lead, capital-intensive packages that drive the critical path of every phase, so the role is accountable for securing manufacturing capacity, lead times and commercial terms that protect the construction schedule and the project budget.
Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, the role acts as the single commercial counterpart of the electrical OEMs (e.g. transformer, switchgear, UPS and genset manufacturers), builds the category strategy together with Electrical Engineering and Project Delivery, and hands over awarded packages to the Supply Chain team for expediting, inspection and logistics. The position has a strong technical-commercial component and is expected to challenge specifications, standardise equipment across sites and develop framework agreements that can be reused as the Spanish portfolio grows.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, the Senior Procurement Manager – OFCI Electrical is responsible for:
- Define and execute the category strategy for OFCI electrical equipment: market and capacity analysis, make/buy and framework-vs-spot decisions, standardisation of equipment families across BAZ 1, BAZ 2 and future sites, and a multi-year sourcing plan aligned with the power-on milestones of each phase.
- Lead end-to-end tenders for HV power transformers, GIS, MV/LV switchgear, UPS, gensets, ATS, switchboards, PDUs and E-pods: RFI/RFQ preparation with Electrical Engineering, bidder pre-qualification, technical-commercial bid evaluation (TCO, lead time, factory slot availability, energy efficiency, spare parts and service), clarification rounds and award recommendations under the Delegation of Authority.
- Negotiate and close purchase agreements and frame agreements with OEMs, covering price and escalation mechanisms, capacity reservation and slot allocation, delivery schedules and liquidated damages, warranties and extended-warranty options, FAT/SAT requirements,
commissioning support, spare-parts packages and service-level agreements.
- Manage the critical-path exposure of long-lead electrical equipment: track OEM capacity and raw-material (copper, steel, electrical steel) market trends, propose early-reservation or deposit strategies, and provide the project team with reliable lead-time and cost assumptions for scheduling and budgeting.
- Act as the commercial owner of the electrical OEM relationships: supplier segmentation, executive-level business reviews, performance management (OTIF, quality at FAT, documentation compliance, claims) and development of alternative sources to reduce single-source dependency.
- Coordinate with the Senior Procurement Manager – Construction MEP & Grid Connection EPC and the contractors so that OFCI equipment interfaces (scope split, installation responsibilities, delivery sequencing to site, storage and preservation requirements) are clearly defined in both the OEM contracts and the construction contracts; for the substation power transformers and GIS this includes aligning OEM delivery, transport (heavy haulage), on-site assembly and erection, oil/SF6 (or alternative gas) filling, supplier supervision and testing responsibilities with the EPC contractor’s programme and the energisation date.
- Hand over awarded packages to the Supply Chain Manager with complete order documentation (technical data sheets, inspection and test plans, delivery schedule, packing and transport requirements) and support expediting, FAT attendance and claims resolution whenever commercial intervention is required.
- Ensure full compliance with IREN procurement policy, approval matrix and audit requirements; run tenders, bid management and purchase agreements in Procore (the department’s e-procurement platform) and maintain clean purchase-order and contract records in SAP; report savings, cost avoidance, lead-time performance and supply risks for the electrical category to the Director and the Procurement Excellence function.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering (preferred)
or in Supply Chain, Business or a related discipline; a post-graduate degree in procurement or an MBA is an asset.
- 10+ years of procurement experience, including at least 5 years leading sourcing of electrical power equipment (HV power transformers, GIS, MV/LV switchgear, UPS, gensets, PDUs) for data centers, utilities, renewable-energy developers, large industrial plants or mission-critical facilities.
- Solid technical understanding of data center electrical architectures (HV substation and GIS, utility intake, MV distribution, N+1/2N topologies, UPS and generator back-up, LV distribution to the IT load) sufficient to challenge specifications and evaluate technical-commercial trade-offs with Engineering.
- Proven track record negotiating multi-million-euro OEM contracts with manufacturers such as the global transformer, switchgear, UPS and genset vendors, including capacity reservation, escalation clauses, liquidated damages, warranties and service agreements.
- Experience with long-lead equipment procurement in fast-track capital projects: managing lead-time risk, early-works and advance payments, FAT/SAT processes and interfaces with EPC/MEP contractors.
- Strong command of procurement governance (Delegation of Authority, tender documentation, audit trails) and of ERP / e-procurement tools; experience with Procore (bid management, commitments, change orders) is highly valued, as is SAP MM.
- Commercial acumen, negotiation skills and stakeholder management at senior level, with the ability to influence Engineering, Project Delivery, Finance and Legal.
- Fluent Spanish and professional English are required; the role interfaces daily with international OEMs, EPC contractors and IREN’s integral procurement and engineering teams.
- Based in Madrid, with regular travel to the Badajoz sites (BAZ 1 and BAZ 2) and occasional travel to supplier factories for negotiations, factory acceptance tests and executive reviews.
Compensation
- Compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
- Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive).
Health & Wellness
- Medical, dental and insurance coverage.
- Wellhub: access to gyms, fitness classes and wellness services.
