Will you help us solve the biggest engineering challenges?
Will you help us solve the biggest engineering challenges? At Quest General, we develop engineering and technology solutions across the entire product lifecycle that allow our clients to tackle the major challenges they face in the aerospace and defense, automotive, energy, high-tech, railway, and semiconductor sectors. We are more than 23,000 people in 20 countries, passionate about innovation and committed to making the world a better place, pushing the limits every day to make possible what once seemed impossible.
If you’re looking for your next challenge, this is your opportunity: We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical development of robotic automation systems for Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical and other industrial applications.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of automated robotic units, from initial concept and system architecture through detailed engineering, prototyping, validation and industrialization. The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, industrial machinery and automation, with particular attention to hygienic design, safety, cleanability, manufacturability and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design and Development
Define the mechanical architecture and develop concepts for robotic automation systems and their surrounding equipment.
Design mechanical structures, assemblies, mechanisms, guarding and equipment interfaces.
Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks or an equivalent CAD system.
Define mechanical interfaces with robots, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), conveyors, sensors, electrical components and pneumatic systems.
Select suitable materials, mechanical components and manufacturing processes based on performance, durability and application requirements.
- Engineering and Technical Validation
Perform mechanical calculations and engineering assessments as required, including structural integrity, loads, stresses, deflection and fatigue.
Apply GD&T; principles and ensure the accuracy and completeness of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical safety requirements and support risk assessments.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to optimize product design, manufacturing efficiency and assembly processes.
- Hygienic Design and Industrial Applications
Incorporate hygienic design principles into mechanical solutions for Food & Beverage and Pharmaceutical environments.
Ensure designs meet applicable requirements for cleanability, washdown, maintenance and contamination prevention.
Consider relevant hygienic design standards and guidelines, such as EHEDG, 3-A and NSF, where applicable.
Design equipment to withstand the environmental and cleaning conditions specified for each application.
- Prototyping,
Industrialization and Continuous Improvement
Support prototype manufacturing, mechanical assembly, commissioning and system validation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve mechanical integration issues and ensure compatibility between mechanical, robotic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
Participate in design reviews, identify potential design improvements and implement corrective actions.
Support the transition from prototype to industrialized product, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability.
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 4 years of experience in mechanical design and development of industrial machinery, automation equipment or special-purpose machines.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks or an equivalent system.
- Good knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes and mechanical component selection.
- Experience with mechanical drawings, GD&T;, machining and sheet-metal manufacturing.
- Understanding of mechanical assemblies, bearings, seals, transmissions and pneumatic components.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support equipment development from concept to validation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience designing machinery for the Food & Beverage industry.
- Experience with Pharmaceutical Equipment or other Hygienic Industrial Applications.
- Familiarity with hygienic design standards and guidelines, including EHEDG, 3-A or NSF.
