Position Summary The Senior Procurement Manager – OFCI Mechanical owns the sourcing and contracting of all owner-furnished cooling and mechanical equipment for IREN Spain’s data center programme: dry coolers, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, coolant distribution units (CDUs) for liquid-cooled AI/HPC halls, fan walls, heat exchangers, pumps, exhaust fans and air handling units. With the shift towards high-density, direct-liquid-cooled GPU deployments, these packages are both schedule-critical and technically fast-moving, and the role is accountable for securing capacity, performance guarantees and commercial terms that protect the project schedule, PUE/WUE targets and budget. Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, the role is the single commercial counterpart of the cooling OEMs, builds the mechanical category strategy together with Mechanical Engineering and Project Delivery, and hands over awarded packages to the Supply Chain team for expediting, inspection and logistics. The position has a strong technical-commercial component and is expected to standardise equipment across sites, qualify alternative manufacturers and develop frame agreements that scale with the Spanish portfolio. Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain, the Senior Procurement Manager – OFCI Mechanical is responsible for:
• Define and execute the category strategy for OFCI mechanical equipment: market and capacity analysis of the cooling OEM landscape (air
- and liquid-cooling), standardisation of equipment families across BAZ 1, BAZ 2 and future sites, and a multi-year sourcing plan aligned with the mechanical completion milestones of each phase.
• Lead end-to-end tenders for dry coolers, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, CDUs, fan walls, heat exchangers, pumps, exhaust fans and AHUs: RFI/RFQ preparation with Mechanical Engineering, bidder pre-qualification, technical-commercial bid evaluation (TCO, energy and water efficiency, lead time, redundancy, noise, refrigerant regulation, spares and service), clarification rounds and award recommendations under the Delegation of Authority.
• Negotiate and close purchase and frame agreements with OEMs, covering price and escalation, capacity reservation, delivery schedules and liquidated damages, thermal performance guarantees, warranties, FAT/witness testing,
commissioning and start-up support, spare-parts packages and preventive-maintenance service agreements.
• Manage the critical-path exposure of long-lead cooling equipment and the technology risk of liquid-cooling components (CDUs, manifolds, heat exchangers for direct-to-chip cooling), providing Project Delivery with reliable lead-time and cost assumptions and proposing early-reservation strategies where required.
• Act as the commercial owner of the mechanical OEM relationships: supplier segmentation, business reviews, performance management (OTIF, FAT quality, documentation, warranty claims) and development of alternative sources, including European manufacturers, to reduce single-source dependency.
• Coordinate with the MEP/EPC construction procurement lead and contractors so that OFCI mechanical interfaces (piping and hydraulic connections, electrical feeds, controls/BMS integration, rigging and installation responsibilities, storage and preservation) are clearly defined in both the OEM and the construction contracts.
• Hand over awarded packages to the Supply Chain Manager with complete order documentation (data sheets, inspection and test plans, delivery schedule, packing, lifting and transport requirements) and support expediting, FAT attendance and claims resolution whenever commercial intervention is required.
• Ensure full compliance with IREN procurement policy, approval matrix and audit requirements; run tenders, bid management and purchase agreements in Procore (the department’s e-procurement platform) and maintain clean purchase-order and contract records in SAP; report savings, cost avoidance, lead-time performance and supply risks for the mechanical category to the Director and the Procurement Excellence function. Requirements
• Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (preferred) or in Supply Chain,
Business or a related discipline; a post-graduate degree in procurement or an MBA is an asset.
• 10+ years of procurement experience, including at least 5 years leading sourcing of HVAC / cooling equipment (chillers, dry coolers, CRAC/CRAH, AHUs, pumps) for data centers, pharmaceutical or industrial plants, or other mission-critical facilities.
• Solid technical understanding of data center cooling architectures (chilled-water and DX systems, free cooling, hot/cold aisle containment, rear-door and direct-to-chip liquid cooling, CDU/TCS loops) sufficient to challenge specifications and evaluate technical-commercial trade-offs with Engineering.
• Proven track record negotiating multi-million-euro OEM contracts with the leading cooling manufacturers, including capacity reservation, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, warranties and service agreements.
• Experience with long-lead equipment procurement in fast-track capital projects: lead-time risk management, advance payments, FAT/SAT processes and interfaces with EPC/MEP contractors.
• Strong command of procurement governance (Delegation of Authority, tender documentation, audit trails) and of ERP / e-procurement tools; experience with Procore (bid management, commitments, change orders) is highly valued, as is SAP MM.
• Commercial acumen, negotiation skills and stakeholder management at senior level, with the ability to influence Engineering, Project Delivery, Finance and Legal.
• Fluent Spanish and professional English are required; the role interfaces daily with international OEMs, EPC contractors and IREN’s integral procurement and engineering teams.
• Based in Madrid, with regular travel to the Badajoz sites (BAZ 1 and BAZ 2) and occasional travel to supplier factories for negotiations, factory acceptance tests and executive reviews. Compensation
• Compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
• Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive). Health & Wellness
• Medical, dental and insurance coverage.
• Wellhub: access to gyms, fitness classes and wellness services.
• Pluxee: flexible benefits for meals, transportation and childcare expenses.
