ROLE OVERVIEW As our Watershed Intelligence Manager, you'll help bring our vision to life by:
• Structuring the watershed regeneration data and research generated to date by the Foundation and its partners
• Working with the team and our partner universities, research centers and field innovation entrepreneurs to define, validate and prioritize the indicators needed to track a watershed's regeneration to a healthy state
• Overseeing the selection, validation and deployment of the measurement and monitoring technologies that generate this data — in most cases by identifying and validating the right technology partner, rather than operating the technology directly
• Building the dashboard and technology infrastructure that lets us measure and communicate the Muga Valley's resilience over time
• Coordinating the Foundation’s relationship with partner universities and their researchers, including the multidisciplinary research programs developed in the watershed and the way the resulting data is managed, shared and used This is not a data analyst role. You will not be generating, processing or modelling the data yourself; you will be orchestrating the process by which our research and technology partners generate, validate and structure it, staying closely informed of their work, and turning it into a shared, decision-useful picture of watershed resilience. The role covers two distinct, complementary data streams. The first is resilience data: the indicators that let us understand how the watershed's regeneration is progressing over time. The second is monitoring and maintenance data: the sensors and technologies, such as satellite-based fire detection, that allow us to protect and maintain what has already been regenerated through early detection and rapid response. Both streams call for the same rigor in identifying the right partners and technologies. We are looking for someone who asks good questions, who is comfortable holding complexity across ecological, social and technical domains, and who acts as a catalyzer between our research partners, technology providers and field innovation entrepreneurs, our internal teams, and the Foundation's leadership. This is an ongoing, open-ended process — data generation and measurement will keep evolving as the watershed regenerates — with the first priority being to establish a clear baseline of where we stand today.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish the Baseline (Urgent priority)
• Collect and structure the monitoring and research work carried out to date by the Foundation and its partners
• Build the first watershed-resilience baseline so the team understands its starting point. Define and Validate the Indicator Framework
• Sit down with each partner university, research center and field innovation entrepreneur to identify the indicators relevant to measuring a watershed's regeneration to a healthy state
• Work with the Biodiversity & Watershed Landscape team to identify and measure ecosystemic indicators, and with the Governance & Community team to define the social indicators to include
• Validate a final, reduced indicators list, prioritizing what is truly relevant to avoid excessive measurement cost Select, Validate and Oversee Measurement Technology
• With the support of the internal team and our partners, identify the technology that measures each indicator most efficiently, balancing cost against ease of scalability, and working on reducing deployment cost and time

• Support and provide the data to be able to validate the sensing and measurement technologies deployed across the watershed: in most cases this means identifying and vetting the specialized technology partner responsible for deployment, while maintaining a clear working overview of what is deployed, by whom, and how it performs
• Maintain a live map of the technology and sensor partners engaged across the watershed, to support future scaling and replication Deployment of Monitoring & Early-Warning Technology to Protect the Regenerated Watershed
• Identify and validate the sensors and technologies required to monitor and maintain the watershed once regenerated
• Treat this monitoring and maintenance data as a distinct stream from the resilience indicators above, with its own partners, technology choices and reporting requirements
• Ensure monitoring data feeds into the resilience dashboard and reaches the relevant teams in time to support rapid response Build and Maintain the Resilience Dashboard
• Design and build a tracking dashboard that measures the watershed's improvement in resilience over time
• Ensure the dashboard also serves as a filter criterion for the institutions and entrepreneurs the Foundation chooses to partner with. Maintain Strategic Oversight of Partner Research
• Stay closely informed of the modelling, cross-referencing and pattern analysis carried out by our university, research center and field innovation partners, without supervising or taking part in the modelling itself
• Act as the connector and catalyzer between the different research partners and internal teams, maintaining open communication so that findings, are shared to maximize the outcomes Coordinate University & Research Partnerships
• Act as the Foundation’s main point of contact with partner universities and research centers, managing the institutional relationship and the day-to-day coordination with their researchers
• Coordinate the multidisciplinary research programs carried out in the Muga Valley, aligning their scope, timelines and deliverables with the Foundation’s priorities and with the work of the internal teams
• Agree with each university and research center, from the outset, how research data is collected, stored, shared, published and reused (collaboration and data-sharing agreements, authorship and publication, confidentiality and personal data protection), in line with the Foundation’s data governance framework
• Ensure that research results and datasets are returned to the Foundation in documented, usable formats and integrated into the baseline and the resilience dashboard Ensure Data Integrity
• Define and validate a methodology for the independent verification of the data collected Contribute to Data Governance
• Support the Foundation in defining what data it owns outright, what remains with research and technology partners, and how data may be shared, used or licensed in the future, including as a potential input to the Foundation's financial instruments. Communicate the Work
• Prepare materials for internal and external audiences (e.g., a slide explaining the Muga Valley's water cycles) Be Present in the Field

• Spend part of your time on the ground in the Muga Valley, working directly with the local team, research partners and field innovation entrepreneurs QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE We know the perfect match for this profile will not exist. We are looking for candidates with a good mix of the qualifications below, and the curiosity, rigor and facilitation skills to organize the remaining expertise around them Data & Scientific Literacy
• Background in environmental science, ecology, hydrology, data science or a related field, with the credibility to engage directly with academic researchers and field innovation entrepreneurs
• Experience designing or managing indicator frameworks, monitoring protocols or dashboards, ideally in an ecological, conservation or sustainability context
• Familiarity with independent data verification methodologies (MRV: Monitoring, Reporting, Verification)
• Able to evaluate, validate and select measurement and monitoring technologies (e.g., remote sensing, satellite-based early-warning systems, in-situ sensors) based on cost and scalability, and to vet the technology partners that deploy them, without needing to be a technologist yourself Facilitation & Partnership Management
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple external partners (universities, research centers and field innovation entrepreneurs) toward a shared, prioritized outcome
• Strong project management skills; able to reduce a long list of possible indicators down to what is relevant and affordable
• Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from academic researchers to funders and local communities
• Experience working with universities and research institutions, ideally coordinating multidisciplinary research programs and setting up research collaboration and data-sharing agreements
• Experience managing relationships with technology vendors or service providers is a plus Regenerative & Ecological Thinking
• Understanding of watershed regeneration, ecosystem health indicators, or nature-based solutions
• Interest in connecting ecological data with social and governance indicators to tell a holistic systemic resilience story Systems Thinking & Curiosity
• A person who asks good questions; comfortable holding complexity and ambiguity in an ongoing, non-linear process
• Acts as a team catalyzer, connecting people, ideas and data across internal teams and external partners Communication
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical findings into clear material for internal and external audiences
• Fluency in Spanish (essential) and English; knowledge of Catalan will be highly valued, especially for the role connecting with universities and research centers
• Driving licence
