Project: Optimal Robust Control of Heterogeneous Energy Systems Through Risk-aware Agents (ORCHESTRA)
PhD Scholarship (3-4 years)
Start date: March 2027 (to be confirmed)
The project focuses on the optimal management of smart infrastructures. The candidate will achieve experience at the intersection of Systems Engineering and Machine Learning, by developing solutions for efficient and robust decision-making in the context of smart urban technologies. Case studies will include energy districts, involving generation, distribution and storage of multiple energy vectors. The candidate will design and implement data-driven algorithms to improve both performance and operational safety, understanding how networks of physical systems behave when interfaced with learning-based algorithms.
The project will enable the candidate to achieve expertise at the intersection of control theory and machine learning, providing an adecuado foundation for careers in both academia and the industry. The candidate will form part of the GEPOC research group,
a broader team working on diverse aspects of systems engineering and optimization. The group sits within one of the leading Spanish research departments in the areas of Automation and Control. The candidate will be encouraged to take part in research collaborations through the established international partnerships of the group.
