Focus: Valuing and executing acquisitions of revenue-generating pharmaceutical assets
Domain / Therapy Area: Pharmaceuticals, Corporate Development and M&A;
A mid-sized European specialty pharmaceutical company is rebuilding its corporate development function to drive growth through acquisition. The near-term priority is acquiring profitable, revenue-generating marketed assets across Europe within the next 12 to 18 months. The M&A; Specialist will own the formal transaction process, working closely with business development, cross-functional teams and external advisers. This is a hands-on role in a team that is still taking shape, with high visibility to executive leadership and the board.
What You Will Do
- Screen opportunities from business development and investment bank teasers against agreed strategic and financial criteria.
- Build risk-adjusted NPV, DCF, comparable and precedent transaction models to value pharmaceutical assets and companies.
- Own the formal transaction process from bid preparation and negotiation analysis through signing and closing.
- Coordinate cross-functional due diligence workstreams, data-room reviews and red-flag reporting on decision-critical risks.
- Prepare clear investment cases and recommendations for executive and board-level decision bodies.
- Manage investment banks, legal counsel,
tax advisers, consultants and counterparties throughout each transaction.
- Support integration planning and track synergies, value-creation milestones and post-close performance.
- Maintain deal tracking, transaction timetables and sector intelligence on valuations and competitive activity.
What We’re Looking For
- Recent, hands-on M&A; deal experience within the last three years.
- Background in pharma or biotech corporate development, investment banking, transaction advisory, consulting, private equity or venture capital.
- Healthcare or pharmaceutical transaction experience preferred, with openness to strong candidates from the advisory side.
- Strong financial modelling, valuation, accounting and presentation skills, with close attention to assumptions and data quality.
- Working knowledge of clinical development, regulatory approval, IP, exclusivity, pricing, reimbursement and market access.
- Good understanding of European pharmaceutical markets, players and regulations.
- Degree in finance, economics, business, life sciences or a related field; MBA, CFA or ACA advantageous.
- Team player with fluent business English, comfortable with ambiguity and confident challenging senior stakeholders.
