What to Expect
We are looking for a Cost Estimator to join our EMEA Infrastructure Development team, as a central function, to support construction cost estimating across Tesla's EMEA portfolio, including Service Centers, Retail Stores, Delivery Hubs and Non-SSD sites (R&D;, Training, Offices, etc.).
You will help the team move from decentralized regional estimating to a centralized EMEA-wide approach. You will apply the agreed methodology, standards, templates and governance, and work under the guidance of senior team members. You will prepare reliable construction cost estimates at each project stage, giving project teams, designers, procurement and leadership a trusted reference for go/no-go decisions.
What You'll Do
- Prepare cost estimates from Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) through detailed CapEx budgets, with accuracy appropriate to each project stage (AACE estimate classes as the reference framework) and guidance from senior estimators
- Produce high-level estimates from historic data to support go/no-go decisions, and check estimates against historic pricing and regional benchmarks to support ATP
- Review plans and due diligence reports, perform dimensional quantity take-offs and flag scope that is implied but not explicitly shown in design documents
- Help develop and maintain a Basis of Estimate for each project, covering scope, execution strategy, precision level, assumptions, exclusions, risks and critical information
- Give cost-driven value engineering feedback to designers at early design stages, and visit project sites as required to validate scope, site conditions and constraints
- Support Procurement and PMs with contractor pricing validation, bid leveling and input on sourcing and pricing for atypical works or high cost-variance items
- Maintain and update the cost database to reflect market conditions, inflation, transport costs and regional differentiation,
and contribute ideas to improve estimating processes
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrable experience in project cost estimating or quantity surveying, preferably in retail, commercial, industrial or multi-site infrastructure rollout environments
- Working knowledge of construction means and methods across civil, structural, architectural and MEP disciplines, with the ability to turn it into accurate cost advice
- Understanding of CapEx cost estimating from ROM through detailed budgeting, with hands-on experience in quantity take-offs and interpreting design documents
- Familiarity with pricing databases or cost libraries (experience maintaining them is a plus), and the ability to spot the main risks, especially at ROM stage, that could significantly affect costs later
- Analytical, detail-oriented and self-motivated, with clear communication in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. You manage your own tasks and deadlines, ask for help when needed, learn quickly from feedback and are interested in working within a centralized estimating function
Willingness to travel across EMEA as required (up to 25%). English required, and additional European language skills are a strong plus
