Eating Disorder Psychotherapist or Psychologist

Employment Classification: 1099 Independent Contractor
Schedule: Flexible; opportunity to build a substantial caseload
Location: Fully Remote/Telehealth
Primary Population: Children, adolescents, young adults, and families
Specialty: Eating Disorders

Position Summary

Ezer Psychotherapy is seeking an experienced psychotherapist or psychologist specializing in eating disorders to join our growing virtual outpatient practice.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position providing fully telehealth psychotherapy to children, adolescents, young adults, and families affected by eating disorders.

We are particularly interested in clinicians who enjoy working collaboratively with parents and families and who are comfortable treating eating disorders using evidence-based approaches. Experience with Family-Based Treatment (FBT) is highly valued given Ezer Psychotherapy's focus on family involvement in the treatment of children and adolescents.

Ezer Psychotherapy also attracts many patients and families who specifically seek Christian-integrated psychotherapy. We would especially welcome a clinician who is comfortable thoughtfully incorporating Christian faith into treatment when requested by the patient or family. Christian-integrated care is a strong preference but is not required.

Patient Population

The clinician may work with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing:

- Anorexia nervosa
- Atypical anorexia nervosa
- Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
- Bulimia nervosa
- Binge-eating disorder
- Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED)
- Restrictive eating
- Binge eating and compensatory behaviors
- Body-image concerns
- Fear of weight gain
- Eating disorders across the weight spectrum
- Eating disorders in athletes
- Perfectionism, anxiety, and OCD symptoms occurring alongside an eating disorder

Depending on experience and clinical interests, opportunities may also be available to treat anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, and related concerns.

Primary Responsibilities

- Provide individual and family psychotherapy through telehealth.
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Assess eating-disorder symptoms, behaviors, psychosocial functioning, and treatment needs.
- Provide evidence-based psychotherapy for eating disorders.
- Engage parents and caregivers in treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Provide Family-Based Treatment (FBT) or FBT-informed care when appropriate to the patient's age, diagnosis, and treatment plan.
- Support patients and families through nutritional rehabilitation and eating-disorder recovery in collaboration with medical and nutrition providers.
- Identify changes in psychiatric or eating-disorder risk requiring additional evaluation or a higher level of care.
- Assess and respond appropriately to suicide, self-harm, and other behavioral-health safety concerns.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation.
- Coordinate care with registered dietitians, physicians, primary care providers, psychiatrists, schools, and other members of the patient's treatment team as appropriate.
- Participate in interdisciplinary consultation and treatment planning as needed.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards in a telehealth environment.

Evidence-Based Eating Disorder Treatment

Experience with one or more evidence-based eating-disorder treatments is strongly preferred, including:

- Family-Based Treatment (FBT)
- FBT for Transitional Age Youth (FBT-TAY)
- FBT for ARFID
- Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E)
- CBT-E for adolescents
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR)
- Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
- MANTRA
- Other evidence-based approaches applicable to eating-disorder treatment

Clinicians do not need to be trained in every modality. Applicants with strong eating-disorder experience and an interest in expanding their training are encouraged to apply.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Eating-disorder treatment is inherently multidisciplinary. The clinician should be comfortable collaborating with:

- Eating-disorder medical providers
- Registered dietitians
- Primary care providers and pediatricians
- Psychiatrists
- Other therapists
- Schools and other community professionals when appropriate

The clinician should value clear communication and coordinated treatment while respecting the distinct roles of psychotherapy, nutrition, and medical care.

Independent Contractor Structure

This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor opportunity rather than a W-2 employee position.

The role includes:

- 100% telehealth
- Flexible scheduling
- Ability to develop a consistent eating-disorder caseload
- Specialized child, adolescent, young-adult, and family population
- Opportunity to collaborate with other eating-disorder professionals
- Potential to expand caseload as demand grows

Specific expectations regarding compensation, scheduling, referrals, billing, credentialing, professional liability coverage, documentation, administrative support, and other contractor responsibilities will be discussed during the contracting process.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must:

- Hold an appropriate independent clinical license that permits independent psychotherapy practice in Minnesota.
- Be legally authorized to independently diagnose and provide psychotherapy within the scope of their professional license.
- Maintain an active, unrestricted professional license and appropriate professional liability coverage.
- Have experience treating children, adolescents, and/or young adults.
- Have clinical experience with eating disorders or substantial specialized eating-disorder training.
- Be comfortable involving parents and caregivers in treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Be able to recognize when outpatient treatment is insufficient and when a patient requires additional medical, psychiatric, or higher-level eating-disorder care.
- Be comfortable providing psychotherapy entirely through telehealth.
- Maintain high-quality clinical documentation and comply with applicable ethical, professional, and regulatory requirements.

Eligible independently licensed disciplines may include:

- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates may have:

- Advanced training or certification in eating-disorder treatment.
- Experience providing Family-Based Treatment (FBT).
- Experience treating children and adolescents with restrictive eating disorders.
- Experience treating young adults with eating disorders.
- Experience treating ARFID.
- Experience with CBT-E, CBT-AR, FBT-TAY, or other evidence-based eating-disorder treatments.
- Experience treating co-occurring anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, depression, or related concerns.
- Experience providing family therapy and caregiver coaching.
- Experience collaborating with dietitians and medical providers.
- Telehealth experience.
- Additional licensure in Wisconsin, North Dakota, and/or Florida.
- Interest in obtaining additional state licenses as the practice expands.
- Interest or experience providing Christian-integrated psychotherapy for patients and families who desire it.

Christian-Integrated Care

Ezer Psychotherapy serves individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds. However, many patients specifically seek Ezer because they want access to high-quality, evidence-based psychotherapy that can also incorporate their Christian faith.

For this reason, we are particularly interested in clinicians who are comfortable integrating Christian faith into psychotherapy when requested by and clinically appropriate for the patient or family.

This may include exploring faith as a source of meaning, values, identity, hope, coping, or support while maintaining evidence-based treatment and appropriate professional boundaries.

Christian-integrated treatment is patient-directed and is not required for every patient.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a therapist or psychologist who genuinely enjoys working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families and wants eating-disorder treatment to be a significant part of their clinical practice.

They understand that effective eating-disorder treatment often requires active intervention rather than supportive psychotherapy alone. They are comfortable addressing eating-disorder behaviors directly, involving caregivers when appropriate, collaborating closely with medical and nutrition providers, and recommending a higher level of care when outpatient treatment is no longer sufficient.

They are collaborative, dependable, clinically thoughtful, comfortable working independently, and interested in contributing to a specialized outpatient eating-disorder practice.

A clinician who is also interested in providing Christian-integrated psychotherapy would be particularly well aligned with Ezer Psychotherapy and the needs of many families seeking services through the practice.
