Up to €80,000 per annum Employment Type: Permanent The Opportunity We are working with a leading integral organisation seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join its Research, Innovation & Labs function in Barcelona. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, scientific research and innovation, developing scalable data pipelines and modern data platforms that support cutting-edge research. You’ll collaborate with data scientists, engineers and business stakeholders to transform complex scientific datasets into reliable, accessible data that drives innovation and better decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation and integration. Build efficient, reusable data solutions using Python, SQL, dbt, Spark and Databricks. Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes across multiple data sources and platforms. Implement automated testing, monitoring and data-quality frameworks. Collaborate with data scientists, data modelers and research teams to support scientific data initiatives. Provide technical guidance on architecture, tooling and engineering best practices. Support cloud-based data environments and CI/CD deployment processes. Ensure data governance, documentation and reliability across engineering solutions.



What We’re Looking For 3+ years' experience in Data Engineering, ideally within scientific research, R&D; or innovation environments. Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, dbt, Spark and Databricks. Knowledge of Cypher and graph databases such as Neo4j. Experience designing and maintaining production-grade data pipelines. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS. Understanding of Git, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and modern development practices. Experience with scientific datasets, bioinformatics, cheminformatics or microbiome data would be advantageous. Knowledge of FAIR data principles, data governance and scientific data standards. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. What’s on Offer? Salary up to €80,000 per annum. Permanent position based in Barcelona.
