About the Opportunity

We are partnering with an ambitious, internationally focused AI startup that is transforming the insurance industry through advanced artificial intelligence and intelligent workflow automation.

Having recently secured €4 million in pre-seed funding, the company is entering an exciting growth phase and is looking for a Senior Node.js Backend Engineer to join its core engineering team in Barcelona.

This is an opportunity to work closely with the founders, take ownership of critical backend systems, and contribute to the development of next-generation AI-powered products.

Your Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Build and optimize robust REST APIs and distributed backend architectures.
- Develop backend infrastructure supporting AI-powered applications and intelligent automation workflows.
- Contribute to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Context Engineering, and Agentic Memory systems.
- Design and maintain reliable data pipelines, integrations, and backend services.
- Work with cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS or Azure, and containerized environments using Docker.
- Optimize system performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate closely with AI engineers, product teams, and founders to deliver high-impact technical solutions.
- Participate in architectural decisions and contribute to engineering best practices.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript.




- Strong understanding of backend architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Practical experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Solid knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
- Experience building scalable, production-ready software systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership, and the ability to work independently.
- Availability to work from the Barcelona office four days per week.

Highly Valued Experience

- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Context Engineering and Agentic Memory architectures.
- Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-powered applications.
- AI agents and agentic workflows.
- Kubernetes, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code technologies.
- MLOps and production AI infrastructure.
- Experience in fast-growing technology startups or SaaS companies.
