About the Role Our client, a prominent player in the energy infrastructure sector, is looking for an experienced Substation Engineer to join their team, serving projects in and around Queenstown, Eastern Cape .
This role involves the design, development, and oversight of substation projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
You will work on a range of substation configurations, from small distribution facilities to larger transmission-level infrastructure.
The idóneo candidate possesses a strong background in high-voltage equipment, protection and control systems, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities
Design and engineer electrical substation layouts, including equipment selection (transformers, switchgear, busbars, circuit breakers).
Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and control/protection system designs.
Specify materials and equipment for substation construction and upgrades.
Coordinate with other disciplines, such as civil, structural, and protection engineers, during the design phase.
Review contractor submittals and ensure compliance with design documents.
Provide technical support during the construction, testing, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor progress and resolve technical issues.




Ensure adherence to relevant national and international standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE) and safety regulations.
Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and cost estimates.
Assist in the development of maintenance and operational procedures for substations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in substation design and engineering.
Strong understanding of high-voltage equipment, power system studies, and protection principles.
Proficiency in using CAD software for electrical design and relevant substation design tools.
Experience with protection and control system design for substations.
Knowledge of substation construction practices and project management principles.
Familiarity with relevant South African electrical codes and standards.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a project team.
Willingness to travel to project sites in the Queenstown area and other locations within the Eastern Cape as required.
