About the Role

Our client, a prominent insurer, is seeking an experienced Senior Insurance Underwriter specializing in Commercial Lines to join their esteemed team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This role is pivotal in assessing, selecting, and pricing commercial risks to ensure profitability and portfolio balance. The Senior Underwriter will handle complex risks, provide guidance to junior underwriters, and contribute to the development of underwriting strategies. Key Responsibilities

- Underwrite a portfolio of commercial insurance risks, ensuring adherence to company guidelines and appetite.
- Analyze financial statements, risk exposures, and other relevant data to accurately assess and price risks.
- Develop appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing for commercial insurance policies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends or emerging risks.




- Collaborate with claims and risk control teams to ensure a holistic approach to client service.
- Approve or decline risks based on sound underwriting judgment and company strategy.
- Participate in market analysis and competitor reviews.

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in underwriting commercial insurance lines.
- Proven expertise in assessing and pricing various commercial risks (e.g., liability, property, commercial auto).
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of insurance contracts, regulations, and market practices.
- Ability to manage a complex workload and prioritize effectively.
- Professional insurance designations (e.g., ACII, CIP) are highly regarded.
- Located in or willing to relocate to Queenstown, Eastern Cape .
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
