Senior Underwriter Political Risks & Credit BondsMadrid, EspanaOur Underwriting PRCB team is looking for an experienced underwriter join this successful team and support the expansion of the business.
As a Senior Underwriter for AXA XL’s Political Risk, Credit & Bond team you will be responsible for delivering a profitable ‘Underwriting’ service to your clients.
Your key tasks include: underwriting business within the agreed business plan and individual authority; supporting the businessplanning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits; maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risk.
You will work as part of an experienced, general underwriting team to originate and underwrite political and credit risks acrossEurope region. You will be part of one of AXA XL’s key Specialty Lines insurance businesses and a member of a market leading team recognized globally for its excellence in the industry.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
What you’ll be DOINGWhat will your essential responsibilities include?Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk by reference to business strategy and risk appetite.
Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants and management team.
Analyze performance of portfolio as well as individual account performance and develop appropriate action to drive profitable growth based upon the analysis.




Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirementsUnderstand the strategy and targets of AXA XL including financial measures.
Plan, develop and integrate distribuion & marketing plans to achieve top and bottom line objectives.
Develop and maintain long-term business relationships with key groups and individuals within the London market.
Promote the company's expertise by participating in industry conferences and events while regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings.
Negotiate with brokers to win targeted business at the right price, while declining business that is not in line with strategy or pricing.
Operate at all times within defined authority level and in line with AXA XL’s underwriting policies, rules and guidelines, and referral requirements.
Develop and drive customer service performance to established standards.
Deliver service excellence through effective collaboration including contribution to the recording and maintenance of high quality data in underwriting systems.
Support the business planning and forecasting process.
Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
Possess an expert level of technical knowledge and skills including product and industry.
You will report to Underwriting Manager – Political Risk, Credit & Bond, Iberia based in Madrid.
What you will BRINGWe’re looking for someone who has these abilities and

skills:




Relevant experience in the banking or insurance sector (or other financial institution) with a focus on credit and/or political risk analysis.
Proven experience in PRCB Underwriting activities and best practice will be highly considered. Specific expertise in trade and export finance, project finance or structured credit are also preferred.
Credit analytical skills with a deep interest in global economic and political affairs.
Ability to respond to changing market conditions and have initiative to capture business opportunities as they arise, and to construct innovative solutions for customers.
Business developing skills, enjoying being out in the market, with highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and a keen appetite for closing the deal; Proficiency inEnglish and Spanish is required, other languages are a plus.
Work in team with colleagues of different seniority and expertise to achieve collective goals.
Proven organizational, time-management skills ; Ability to respond to achanging environment with flexibility and innovation.
