Platform Lead – Starburst

Location:
Barcelona, Spain

Contract:
Contract - 6 months minimum

Working pattern:
Hybrid, 2–3 days per week onsite in BCN or Remote within Spain

We are looking for a hands-on
Platform Lead
to take ownership of a production
Starburst Enterprise
platform, ensuring its reliability, performance and continuous improvement.

You will remain technically hands-on while also leading and supporting a small team of 2–3 engineers.

Key Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day operation and reliability of the Starburst platform
- Lead incident resolution, root-cause analysis and production support
- Manage upgrades, releases, patching and operational changes
- Support and improve Kubernetes-based platform infrastructure
- Automate platform tasks using Python, SQL and YAML
- Work with external vendors on technical issues, defects and upgrades
- Mentor engineers and improve documentation, processes and team standards
- Support monitoring, resilience,



performance and continuous improvement

Essential Experience
- Strong experience with
Starburst Enterprise, Trino or Presto
- Experience in a
Platform Lead, Technical Lead or Senior Platform Engineer
role
- Kubernetes, Helm, Docker and YAML
- AWS and RDS
- CI/CD and GitHub Actions
- Python and SQL
- Production support, incident management and troubleshooting
- Experience leading or mentoring a small technical team
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable Experience
- Immuta, Apache Ranger or Collibra
- Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Hive or Iceberg
- dbt, AWS Glue, Lambda or Power BI
- Data virtualisation, data mesh or governed data platforms
- Experience in pharma, biotech, healthcare or another regulated environment
- FinOps, disaster recovery, scalability or platform resilience
