Mapal is an international B2B SaaS scale-up helping hospitality businesses simplify their operations, empower their teams and improve performance. Headquartered in Madrid, we combine deep industry expertise with AI-powered technology to support essential activities, from workforce management to compliance and operational excellence.
Backed by Eurazeo, a leading European investment group and our majority investor, we are continuing to grow internationally and invest in product innovation.
Joining Mapal means being part of an international team where you can take ownership, contribute ideas and help shape the technology our customers rely on every day.
About the role
We’re looking for a Tech Lead who enjoys building software, helping others develop and turning complex challenges into practical solutions.
You’ll guide the technical direction of your team while staying close to the code. Working alongside Engineering and Product colleagues, you’ll help translate customer and business needs into reliable, secure and maintainable software.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who has supported others and influenced technical decisions, and is ready to take broader ownership. You’ll combine hands-on development with technical leadership, giving your team the clarity and support they need to deliver with confidence.
What you’ll do
- Guide technical decisions within your team, balancing customer needs, delivery priorities and the long-term health of our platform.
- Stay hands-on with development, contributing to complex features, reviewing code and helping resolve technical challenges.
- Work with Product and Engineering colleagues to clarify requirements, explore trade-offs and break initiatives into manageable pieces.
- Help the team build reliable, secure and maintainable software through sound design, testing and development practices.
- Coach engineers through feedback, pairing and knowledge sharing, building their confidence and autonomy.
- Support realistic planning, identify dependencies early and communicate technical risks and progress clearly.
- Improve the development lifecycle, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability and release practices.
- Take an active role in investigating production issues,
addressing root causes and improving service reliability.
- Manage technical debt pragmatically, making space for improvements alongside product delivery.
- Collaborate with other technical teams and encourage thoughtful use of tools, automation and AI to improve how we work.
What you’ll bring
You’ll bring strong software engineering experience, sound technical judgement and an interest in helping others succeed. We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have experience as a Tech Lead, or as a senior engineer taking ownership of technical decisions and supporting colleagues.
- Have built and maintained production software, ideally in a B2B SaaS or enterprise environment.
- Bring strong hands-on skills in your core technology stack and feel comfortable learning unfamiliar systems.
- Understand software architecture, API design, data modelling and integration patterns, and can explain the trade-offs behind your choices.
- Have practical experience with cloud environments, CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring.
- Consider security, performance and reliability throughout the development process.
- Enjoy mentoring engineers and giving clear, constructive feedback.
- Can turn complex requirements into practical technical plans without losing sight of the customer problem.
- Work well with Product and other stakeholders, communicating clearly about priorities, risks and constraints.
- Take a pragmatic approach to technical debt, balancing immediate needs with sustainable engineering.
- Communicate confidently in English and enjoy collaborating across teams and countries.
- Your first year with us As you get to know our products, architecture and people, you’ll gradually focus on:
- Building a clear understanding of your team’s systems, customer needs and technical priorities.
- Establishing trusted relationships with engineers, Product colleagues and other technical teams.
- Bringing clarity to technical decisions and helping the team navigate trade-offs.
- Improving delivery predictability through smaller increments, realistic planning and early visibility of risks.
- Strengthening code quality, testing and release practices where they will make the greatest difference.
- Identifying key reliability, security and performance risks and helping address them.
- Agreeing a practical approach to technical debt and architectural improvements.
- Helping engineers grow their skills and take greater ownership of their work.
Your impact will come from combining your own technical contribution with the guidance, tools and shared understanding that help the whole team succeed.
Why join us
At Mapal, you’ll join an international B2B SaaS team where you can share your ideas, take ownership and see the impact of your work as we grow.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape technical decisions, stay hands-on and learn from colleagues across products and countries. Your work will support software that hospitality teams use every day.
We know flexibility matters. That’s why we offer hybrid working options, flexible start and finish times, and shorter summer hours. You’ll also have access to private health insurance, a adaptable compensation plan, local public holidays and annual leave with carry-over flexibility.
There’s plenty to get involved in, too: company events, team offsites, referral bonuses and opportunities to learn from colleagues across the business.
If you enjoy solving technical challenges, sharing what you know and helping a team grow, we’d love to hear from you.
