AstraZeneca seeks an Associate Director, Data Engineer to design and deploy modular data solutions that accelerate pre-clinical R&D; workflows. Based in Barcelona with mandatory on-site presence, this role bridges scientific requirements and enterprise engineering to advance trustworthy AI and FAIR data practices.
Responsibilities
- Prototype, design, develop, and deploy modular data solutions for end-to-end R&D; workflows
- Mentor junior colleagues and coordinate delivery across internal and outsourced teams
- Evaluate technical trade-offs across scalability, security, performance, and maintainability
- Implement FAIR+T principles with end-to-end traceability and governance alignment
- Identify and implement AI-assisted development and automation opportunities for data workflows

Requirements




- Python programming expertise and knowledge of additional programming languages
- Experience designing and deploying data solutions for complex scientific or operational workflows
- AWS cloud platform experience including S3, Lambda, Step Functions, and IAM or equivalents
- Relational database and data integration workflow experience
- Ability to translate scientific and business requirements into technical designs
- Agile project delivery experience with progress tracking and stakeholder reporting
- Understanding of data quality, metadata, and FAIR principles
