About the role
LAAGAM is an independent fashion brand based in Barcelona, creating ready-to-wear and accessories with a distinct point of view.
We are looking for a Senior Buyer & Product Developer to own our collection plan, develop commercially strong product with Design and help us build a faster, more flexible supply chain.
This is a hands-on role. You will work directly on collections, fittings, costing and supplier negotiations, with responsibility for turning decisions into product that can be delivered and sold at the right time.
You will own the collection plan and build it with the Design team: the category mix, product offer, seasonal coverage, drops and balance between newness, carryovers and bestsellers.
You will work alongside Merchandise Planning as a peer function. Planning owns budgets, forecasts, buying depth and stock analysis. You own the collection plan and product development, using those financial parameters and sales insights to inform your decisions.
A central part of your role will be continuously finding and negotiating with suppliers. Together with Operations, you will help build a supplier base that allows us to develop product faster, place more adaptable orders and replenish successful styles while demand is still there.
Own the collection plan
- Build and maintain the collection plan with Design. Turn sales insights and brand direction into clear development priorities by category, occasion, seasonal need and drop before design work begins.
- Define the category mix, number of styles, price architecture and drop structure within the agreed budgets and positioning, balancing products that drive sales, build brand recognition and test new ideas.
- Balance Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter needs, newness and proven products. Identify gaps, duplication and excessive exposure before development or buying commitments.
- Build a focused Wholesale assortment and a broader Retail and Digital offer, with drops matched to selling moments. Incorporate channel feedback early; products removed from Wholesale do not automatically become the Retail offer.
- Keep the collection plan current as development progresses and commercial priorities change.
Develop product and protect quality
- Follow product development from the initial brief and first sample through to order readiness.
- Participate in fittings and product reviews, contributing practical feedback on fabrics, construction, fit, finishing and commercial viability.
- Work with Product, Design and suppliers to resolve quality, cost or timing issues without losing the intended product. Track each issue by product, with the agreed correction, owner and deadline, and verify the correction before closing it.
- Check target cost, minimum quantities, material availability and development and production lead times from the first brief. Negotiate directly and propose alternative fabrics, construction or suppliers when a development is too expensive, complex or slow.
- Confirm order readiness: final specifications, approved sample and quality, cost and payment terms, minimum quantities, reorder capacity and confirmed production and delivery dates.
Resolve open issues before committing the order.
Negotiate and develop the supplier base
- Lead direct negotiations on prices, minimum order quantities, development and production lead times, repeat orders, payment terms and other commercial conditions.
- Continuously identify, contact and assess new suppliers, rather than only searching when an existing supplier fails.
- Match suppliers to product categories according to their technical capability, quality, capacity, cost and speed.
- Develop alternative suppliers by product category and geography to reduce concentration and improve flexibility. Qualify backup options for proven styles without unnecessarily delaying viable orders with the current supplier.
- Keep supplier information and negotiated conditions accurate, documented and accessible to the teams that need them.
Build a faster supply chain with Operations
- Work with Operations to move buying closer to demand, shorten development and replenishment lead times and make supplier commitments more reliable.
- Establish what can be reordered, in what quantity and within what timeframe, including fabric and colour availability, before we need to react to demand.
- Ensure a clear handover from development to production, including specifications, approvals, costs and delivery requirements.
- Work backwards from each channel's delivery date with Wholesale, Planning and Operations: commercial order deadlines, samples, buying, production and transport. Assess the cost, margin and stock risk of timing alternatives before agreeing changes.
- Stay involved in supplier and product issues through resolution. Operations owns production management and logistics.
Oversee product costs and pricing
- Lead a weekly review of product cost issues, identifying deviations and assessing their impact on pricing, margin and product decisions.
- Supervise pricing coherence with the Junior Buyer and Merchandise Planning: category price architecture, market benchmarks, target costs derived from retail prices and required margins, and profitability by style.
- Agree corrective actions with Product, Design and suppliers, and follow them through until the relevant costing and product information is updated.
React to sales and develop the team
- Use Merchandise Planning's sales, sell-through and stock analysis to review performance by product, category and drop, and translate the findings into product decisions.
- Propose reorders, adaptations, continuations or cancellations, checking supplier feasibility and timing while Planning assesses quantities and budget. Follow each approved decision through to a confirmed order or change, with an owner, deadline and delivery commitment.
- Consolidate commercial results and recurring development issues with Product and Design,
and make sure the learnings are reflected in the next collection plan and design briefs.
- Support and train our Junior Buyer in product development, supplier negotiation and day-to-day execution.
- Keep clear priorities, documentation and follow-up across Design, Planning and Operations.
What success looks like
- A clear, current collection plan built with Design, within the agreed budgets and positioning.
- Product reaches order readiness with approved specifications, quality, costs and delivery commitments.
- Supplier negotiations improve cost, minimums, lead times and replenishment flexibility.
- Sales and development learnings lead to changes in the next collection and confirmed buying actions.
What we are looking for
- Experience independently managing buying and product development in fashion, with direct responsibility for garment suppliers.
- Experience building collection plans and making commercial product decisions, not only coordinating samples or tracking orders.
- Strong negotiation skills, with examples of improving costs, minimums, lead times or supplier flexibility.
- Practical knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, fittings, quality and production.
- Product sensitivity and an understanding of how design, price, margin and timing affect whether a product sells.
- Confidence working with Excel or Google Sheets and using sales and stock data to make decisions.
- A hands-on approach: you are comfortable negotiating yourself, checking a sample, updating a plan and following an issue through.
- Clear communication, willingness to share information and the ability to take responsibility when something goes wrong.
- Professional fluency in Spanish and English.
- Based in Barcelona or able to work regularly from our Barcelona office.
- Experience sourcing across different markets, including Turkey, China or India, and working across several product categories would be valuable.
What we offer
- Responsibility for the collection plan and a direct role in how LAAGAM develops and buys product.
- The opportunity to build a more agile supplier network alongside Operations.
- Close collaboration with Design, Merchandise Planning and the founders.
- A Barcelona-based role, primarily office-based, with flexible hours and occasional remote work.
- Room to grow into broader responsibility as your contribution and the business develop.
Hiring process
- Application and CV review.
- Asynchronous video interview in Hireflix: six questions about your experience, including one in English. Allow around 20–25 minutes.
- Business case using fictional product, sales and supplier data: up to two hours of work, submitted within seven calendar days.
- Interview with the CEO to discuss your experience and decisions in the case.
