Overview

As a Director-level AI Engineer at AstraZeneca, you will set the technical direction for GenAI, AI Agents, and Digital Twin initiatives in a forward-deployed model. You’ll serve as the technical authority across programs, embedding with teams to deliver production-grade AI solutions. Your leadership will raise delivery standards and guide architectural decisions without direct reports. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic governance to accelerate AI-enabled outcomes in integral operations.

Responsabilidades

- Define and evolve reference architectures, design patterns, and delivery playbooks for GenAI, AI Agents, and Digital Twins
- Act as the technical authority for AI engineering practice, setting quality standards for code, architecture, and production readiness
- Establish and chair technical review forums and communities of practice to raise capability across engineering teams
- Track the evolving AI product and vendor landscape and translate innovations into practical guidance
- Embed in critical programmes to unblock challenges, review designs/code, and guide delivery




- Partner with project leads to assess risks and dependencies; advise on mitigations
- Provide hands-on technical consultancy to business stakeholders for estimating, prioritising, and scoping AI initiatives
- Conduct design and code reviews to ensure secure, scalable, production-ready solutions
- Engage senior stakeholders and external partners to shape the AI delivery agenda
- Collaborate with the innovation team to prototype and socialise new technical capabilities
- Mentor engineers and act as a technical coach and escalation point
- Represent AI Engineering in governance and leadership forums, articulating trade-offs to diverse audiences

Requisitos principales

- Bachelor’s degree in operations research, mathematics, computer science, or a related quantitative field
- At least 10 years delivering ML/AI projects, with 5+ years as a technical lead, principal engineer, or architect
- Proven ability to set technical direction without formal line management
- Advanced expertise in Python and familiarity with Snowflake and Neo4j databases
- Hands-on expertise in Generative AI and AI Agents at scale
- Strong software development, algorithms, optimization, and scaling knowledge
- Excellent communication, business analysis, and stakeholder-influencing skills
