We are looking for a practical developer to build, maintain and improve straightforward business applications, internal tools and automations. The work includes small Python programs, changes to existing PHP or Visual Basic applications, and gradual refactoring or migration where it makes sense.
You do not need to be an expert in all three languages. A solid Python foundation, curiosity about unfamiliar code and the ability to deliver working, verified changes matter more than knowing a long list of frameworks.
Location and conditions
Permanent contract. 100% on-site at Torre Iberdrola, Plaza de Euskadi 5, 48009 Bilbao. Working hours will be discussed individually. Gross annual salary: EUR 40,000-50,000.
What you will build and improve
Small programs, scripts, utilities and internal applications that solve clearly defined business needs.
Simple web interfaces and forms, data-management screens, reports, file-processing tools and repetitive-task automations.
Integrations between applications through APIs, JSON and database queries; imports and exports using CSV, Excel or other structured files.
Fixes and improvements to Python, PHP or Visual Basic code. Read existing logic, investigate errors, simplify components and preserve required behaviour.
Migration of selected legacy functionality to Python when needed; not every task requires a complete rewrite.
Clear documentation, representative tests and practical handovers so other team members can run and maintain the result.
AI is a core working skill
Hands-on use of OpenAI Codex or Claude Code is essential. Use coding agents to understand repositories, explore unfamiliar languages, plan changes, implement features, refactor code and prepare tests. Other AI assistants, coding editors and automation tools are welcome as complementary resources.
We expect you to give useful context and instructions,



break work into manageable steps, inspect generated changes and correct mistakes. AI assistance is not a substitute for understanding the result: test normal and exceptional inputs, check integrations, and explain what works and what still needs attention. Protect source code, personal data and credentials when using any tool.
What we need
Practical Python 3 skills and the ability to explain a program you have personally built or improved.
Real experience using OpenAI Codex or Claude Code to complete development tasks, with examples of how you validated the output.
Willingness to learn and work with PHP, Visual Basic and existing business applications. Prior expertise in both PHP and VB is not required.
A methodical approach to debugging, testing, documentation and communication; ability to clarify requirements and adapt to the team's methods.
English at C1 level or equivalent, which will be assessed.
Useful tools and additional experience
Git, command-line tools, debugging and logs; basic SQL, APIs and data processing.
HTML/CSS/JavaScript for simple interfaces; PHP, VB6/VBA/VB.NET, or Python frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI or Django. These are useful examples, not a requirement to master every tool.
Experience with accounting/ERP integrations, legacy applications, refactoring or small internal projects.
Professional German and/or French; additional working languages are also valued. Please state your vigente level and professional use.
Tell us about your work
Briefly describe a small Python program you built: the problem, your contribution and the checks you performed. Also explain how you would modify an unfamiliar PHP or Visual Basic program using AI, understand its behaviour and test that your change did not break existing functionality. Use anonymised examples; do not submit confidential code, credentials or client data.
