Accounting & Reporting Director
WHO WE ARE
At Verdalia Bioenergy, we see organic waste as a resource, not a problem. Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, we develop, build and operate biomethane plants across Spain and Italy, turning agricultural and agri-food waste into renewable gas and biofertilizers. We combine long-term vision with the speed and ambition of a scale-up, and we're building the team that will lead Europe's green energy transition.
YOUR IMPACT
As Accounting & Reporting Director, you'll own the full record-to-report cycle of a fast-growing, multi-entity group spanning Spain, Italy and the UK, from holding companies to operating plants and project SPVs. Your scope runs from transactional processing to IFRS consolidation, statutory accounts, external audit and tax.
Reporting to the CFO, you'll lead Finance Operations, Close & Reporting and Tax, working side by side with Controlling & FP&A;, Treasury and Finance Italy. Our finance function is being redesigned around end-to-end processes, and you'll have real ownership in shaping how it works.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the monthly close end to end across Spain, Italy and the UK, delivering a fast and reliable close and consolidation.
- Lead the Group IFRS-EU consolidation and the UK IFRS group accounts, and drive the move of the consolidation into NetSuite.
- Deliver statutory accounts under Spanish, Italian and UK requirements, acting as the single point of contact with the external auditor.
- Own accounting policies and technical positions, including plant construction capitalisation, IFRS 16, intercompany, grants and impairment.
- Lead the Finance Operations and Tax teams on compliance, transfer pricing, tax consolidation and service-level KPIs.
- Embed key controls into processes and systems, and lead automation to remove manual work from the close.
- Build and develop the team, including outsourced partners, creating clear career paths.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics. ACA, ACCA, ROAC or equivalent is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience, including 5+ leading group accounting or reporting in a multi-entity, multi-country group, and a background in audit, ideally with a Big 4 or comparable firm.
- Hands-on expertise in IFRS-EU consolidation and technical accounting, with working knowledge of Spanish GAAP (PGC) and Italian GAAP (OIC).
- A proven track record of running a fast, reliable monthly close and leading external audits.
- Experience leading teams of 8+ people, including outsourced providers.
- Strong ERP skills, ideally NetSuite.
- Fluent Spanish and a good command of English. Italian is a strong plus.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in energy, infrastructure or project-finance groups with multiple SPVs.
- Background in private equity-backed environments, reporting to investors and lenders.
- Experience moving a consolidation from Excel into the ERP.
WHY JOIN US
- Help redesign a finance function around end-to-end processes, with real ownership of the close and the books.
- Work directly with the CFO and leadership team in an international, multi-entity environment.
- Be part of a company turning waste into renewable energy and leading Europe's energy transition.
- Permanent contract · Hybrid model (1 day remote per week) · Madrid, with regular travel to Italy.
Don't tick every box? If you believe you can bring something to the team, we'd love to hear from you.
