Context And Mission
The Single- and Multi-Agent Research (SMART) group focuses on researching, evaluating and implementing formally-grounded and verifiable methods and frameworks for understanding and designing intelligent agents, mainly but not limited to logical-symbolic, reinforcement learning and LLM-augmented (agentic) agents.
Our research group has been consistently developing contributions in the field of multi-agent systems from several perspectives, including efficient methods for combining symbolic and sub-symbolic forms of reasoning; scalable architectures for parallel distributed execution of large volumes of agents; mechanisms and languages for encoding, interpreting and analysing the effects of social values and norms; and explainability methods in cooperative and competitive settings.
We are looking for a research engineer to support and lead a number of ongoing research projects in Artificial Intelligence. These projects involve knowledge areas such as agents, explainability, autonomous decision-making, multi-agent coordination and communication,
and AI systems in general, applied to a wide range of use cases.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day advancements and follow-up of project activities, including technical coordination, management, research and engineering support when needed. The role involves working closely with other engineers and research and support teams, technical staff, and external collaborators, ensuring that milestones, deliverables, and reporting obligations are met in accordance with funding requirements.
Key Duties
- Participate in engineering activities, including development and experimentation of artificial intelligence methods.
- Coordinate research project technical activities, including planning, execution, and tracking.
- Monitor project timelines and technical deliverables.
- Facilitate communication between researchers, developers, and external partners.
- Contribute to the preparation of te
