About the role
We are looking for a Junior R&D; Software Developer to help turn technical ideas into working prototypes, measurable experiments and reliable integrations.
You will work with AI models, voice technologies, computer vision and physical devices , exploring how software performs under real-world conditions.
This is a hands-on development role. You will write well-structured, testable code, connect services and devices, build evaluation tools and investigate technical problems alongside experienced engineers.
Typical questions you will help us answer include:
- Which speech recognition model performs best with background noise?
- Which voice synthesis solution offers the best balance of quality and latency?
- Can a tablet run a particular AI model locally with acceptable performance?
- How do microphone placement, speakers and acoustic conditions affect conversations?
- Can we reliably integrate a camera, sensor or connected device?
- What happens to latency, memory usage and device temperature during extended use?
The role is fully on-site in Barcelona , with regular work involving physical devices and collaboration with the R&D; team. Key responsibilitiesBuild prototypes and integrations
- Turn research ideas and technical hypotheses into functional software prototypes.
- Integrate APIs and models for speech recognition, speech synthesis, LLMs and computer vision with current capabilities
- Develop experimental features, supporting services and tools.
- Connect software with tablets, microphones, speakers, cameras and other peripherals or sensors.
Design and run technical experiments
- Build repeatable evaluations to compare models, providers, architectures and device configurations.
- Define and measure relevant metrics, including quality, latency, reliability and resource consumption.
- Test systems under realistic conditions, such as background noise, unstable connectivity and extended operation.
- Document the hardware, software versions and configuration needed to reproduce results.
Investigate software and device issues
- Use logs, traces, profiling tools and experimental data to investigate unexpected behaviour.
- Help identify whether a problem comes from application code, an AI service, connectivity, operating-system configuration or hardware.
- Investigate audio and video capture, permissions, device compatibility and performance bottlenecks.
- Implement improvements and verify their impact.
Collaborate and share findings
- Work closely with the technical lead and R&D; engineers.
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming and technical discussions.
- Communicate progress, blockers and findings clearly.
- Turn successful experiments into reusable scripts, services and test suites.
Essential requirements
- Solid programming skills in at least one relevant language, such as Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or Dart .
- Experience building working software through academic projects, personal projects, internships or employment.
- Basic familiarity with APIs, Git and debugging.
- A strong interest in applied AI, voice technologies and computer vision.
- Practical experience connecting software to a physical device or peripheral , such as a tablet, microphone, camera, sensor, Raspberry Pi or microcontroller.
- A basic understanding of how processor capabilities, RAM, connectivity and thermal limitations can affect software performance.
- Ability to take a small, clearly scoped technical problem from idea to working prototype, with guidance when needed.
- Ability to investigate independently, explain what you have tried and ask for help when blocked.
- Availability to work on-site in Barcelona throughout the working week.
- Hardware experience does not need to come from a professional role: a relevant university or personal project is equally welcome.
- Flutter/Dart , particularly native integrations, audio capture or streaming.
- Backend or cloud technologies such as Firebase, Firestore, Cloud Functions or Cloud Run.
- Integration of speech recognition, speech synthesis or LLM APIs.
- Function calling, structured outputs, agent workflows or automated model evaluation.
- Experience with Android development tools, ADB, Linux or device profiling.
- Familiarity with USB peripherals, Bluetooth/BLE, Wi-Fi or serial communication.
- Experience running AI models locally on mobile or edge devices.
- Exposure to audio concepts such as echo cancellation, sample rates, microphone selection or background-noise handling.
- Basic software testing, observability and performance measurement.
What we are looking for You do not need to be an AI or hardware expert. We are looking for a curious developer who enjoys building things, investigating problems and learning through practical experimentation.
You should be comfortable moving between code and a physical setup: connecting a device, checking its configuration, running an experiment and explaining the results.
You will work on technology with a clear purpose, gain experience across AI, voice and device integration, and learn alongside experienced R&D; engineers.
