AstraZeneca seeks a Senior Scientist to develop agentic AI systems that improve clinical trial design, execution, and analysis. The Barcelona-based role involves building LLM-driven workflows, production-grade engineering, and close collaboration with clinical teams to deploy AI capabilities across multiple studies.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver LLM-driven agentic workflows for trial planning, conduct, monitoring, and reporting
- Write production-quality Python and SQL code; build services, data pipelines, retrieval systems, and automated tests
- Integrate clinical data sources with clear provenance, access controls, and verification mechanisms
- Build reproducible experiments and evaluation datasets; perform error analysis and model comparisons
- Collaborate with clinical and operations teams through rapid prototyping and user feedback cycles

Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Biomedical Informatics,



or related quantitative field; or master's with equivalent applied research and engineering experience
- Strong Python programming and working knowledge of SQL, software testing, version control, and APIs
- 1–3 years post-PhD or master's-equivalent experience building applied ML, NLP, generative-AI, or agentic systems
- Understanding of language models, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, tool use, and structured generation
- Ability to design experiments, select metrics, perform error analysis, and communicate uncertainty
- Experience with complex, heterogeneous data and tracing outputs to their sources
- Clear written and verbal communication; commitment to reproducibility and responsible AI in clinical contexts
